I've found on Craigslist some N scale engines for sale (Kato and Atlas) - They look like new or were hardly used There is that SD40-2, and I would like your opinion: Looks like there is something missing, just under the rear light...Seems like 2 "holes" What is it? Is it something missing, or broken? Can it be fixed?
Number boards, there should be a sprue in the box with some on them, (4). You'll need the other 2 for the holes in the front in the cab of the same shape.
Sometimes the sprue with them is still in the jewel case. If they aren’t you can often find them elsewhere or make your own (not too tough).
Price is $50 per engine, and they seem new or with very little use So at that price, it's still a good deal i guess
I wonder what production level is this? I have a Kato SD40-2 and the rear numbers are molded into the shell. They are not separately applied by the modeler. $50 is a good deal given the like new condition even without the rear number boards. Unless you are a rivet counter or super anal. Then $1 is too expensive missing number boards. BTW, I'm assuming there are number boards in the front?
I asked about it, and the seller sent me pictures of the box, and there is a small plastic bag in one corner. So it must be the number boards
that's it, and $50 is excellent. MK this is the older style Kato SD40-2s, but still excellent runners, those needed the boards adding.
Ah, got it! Yes, the little plastic bag in the (usually) upper right corner contains the number boards.
I'm taking 3 actually.....2 Kato (ES44AC UP and SD40-2) and 1 Atlas (GP38-2) + 5 cars like this: https://www.pwrs.ca/view_product.php?ProductID=229012
They've been sold out for a while now. Oddly enough soon after I ordered some for some shells I found for a project.
