Good morning from sunny and mild Northeast Ohio, but snow expected tonight and tomorrow! What I got done this week, will not be getting much done in the next few weeks as my wife and I are switching sides of the basement area and I have been putting up shelves and moving my workbench over to the other side. Athearn ACF 2970CF Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II MOW Gray and lettered with Prime Mover Decals. The EL purchased these cars to replace their old house built 1958CF and smaller covered hoppers in the sand and cement service. This car is numbered after the one in the EL Color Guide that still looked like it was brand new with the picture being taken in 1984. I have been building up my fleet of Mechanical Reefers with this Red Caboose PC&F R70-15 kit. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Orange and White paints and lettered with Oddballs Decals. Car was purchased by ART for the MP and Wabash, but was relettered into the ARMN reporting marks after the Wabash, Nickle Plate and N&W Merger. Still working on adding to the trailer fleet, Athearn 40' Bluebox trailer with the grabs and other stuff removed from the nose and the gusset over the landing gear removed to better replicate a common trailer. Painted with Scalecoat II Reefer White and Silver paints and lettered with Microscale Decals including the Conrail logo on the mud flaps. Last week I took my EL SDP45 and SD45-2 to the club to haul a general freight led by some of my grocery cars of the EL. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski
Good morning all, some photos I took last weekend of the N scale layout at the South Bay Historical Railroad Society open house.
That's a great layout. I really like the last photo. A place like that brings out the kid in me. If there's anything that no one should lose is one's sense of wonder.
It has been a drag of a week so what better way to sum it up but with a 20-car coal drag. This one powered by New York Ontario & Western #317 2-8-0 Consolidation by Broadway Limited. A look down Church Street, from the depot's parking lot at the corner of Main: The yard and engine terminal are at the end of the street. An RDC peeks out from behind the station while a Ford delivery wagon waits at the intersection.
Yeah, sure it's 1:220.... maybe in some scale from an alien planet where the the alien foot equal 220 of our feet. Sven, you really have to stop trying to fool us with these photos that should be on Weekend ProtoFun thread! Kidding aside, this is just stunning. The detail work in the scenery is incredible. For what it's worth, I've noticed that with island style layouts and yours in particular, since there are so many really photogenic scenes on it. Many times, a piece of masonite shot with blue paint and hung on an easel would take photos like that one to a whole new level. Just a thought. BTW, the lighting on/in the corner building is a very cool effect
As I see it, at least part of these scenes being so real is how he uses lighting. They come out looking absolutely great.
Tired to pay homage to an S.L. Dixon photo of a Milwaukee GP35, U25B and SW1200 at the roundhouse Bellingham. The roundhouse is not really a very close match
