They sure will make a pretty site. Hmm, and I have 3 LL GP20s and an bman BN shell, and a UP something or other hmmmm. They will be more like this: Thanks again. [ June 28, 2005, 04:53 AM: Message edited by: Grey One ]
Well, Right now, I have a little 1'x4' module that I'm slowly working on to get a little of the learning curve out of the way. Really have no time or space at the moment for anything bigger.
Israel: Right now, I have a little 1'x4' module that I'm slowly working on to get a little of the learning curve out of the way. There you go, you're way ahead of me. That's exactly what it's for, that and scratching the model railroading itch, of course. Regards
RE: 1x4 foot modules. One of the design elements I have been tossing around is having 1x2 , 3, or 4' drop in module spaces along the front edge of Phase II and II. I could then change from a town to a yard to a... New Image to follow [ June 28, 2005, 09:20 PM: Message edited by: Grey One ]
Way to go! You're taking your hobby to a new level, and the benchwork looks nicely overbuilt. This will be a very satisfying project for you, so don't be nervous and just get some action like you know you want to, the worst you can do is screw up. Mistakes are the best lessions in my opinion, so earn your mastery of layouting through experimentation, ahahahahaha...
Thanks FD: Makin mistakes is my middle name. Wait, no it is not, Um, "Over built" benchwork? You think there is too much? Just wondering. Just a thought, Since this is the "Construction Phase" should this be moved to either the "N Scale" Forum or the "Inspection Pit"? I expect it will grow to be as large as the other. I intend to brag, er: showoff, no, I mean share as much as I can. That's it. I'm goiing to share.
It's fine here. More and more N scalers are discovering this forum. You could post a "teaser" on the N-scale forum pointing them here, or post your best summary posts there. Just a suggestion.
OK, here's how you post a teaser: In the N Scale Forum Topic: Gray and Grandure Progress For those of you interested in my progress on construction of the Gray and Grandure, please visit my thread on the Layout Design and Discussion Forum: http://www.trainboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/ubb/get_topic/f/33/t/000720.html?
Pete: More and more N scalers are discovering this forum. You could post a "teaser" on the N-scale forum pointing them here A teaser or summary over there would be a good idea. I know I was blithely unaware of this forum for a long time, mainly hanging out on the N scale forum. I mean, there are more than just a few forums to leaf through, no? And I thought, why do I need to check out the layout design forum when i already have my design finished? Regards
I don't think your benchwork is overbuilt - looks just fine for what you've got going. You'll appreciate a little "sturdiness" when you lean on the front to get at something in the back! Don't ask me how I know this!
Coming together nicely Steve (Grey One). Closer to that day when we can see a pic of you custom loco making a trip Steven
Thanks Bama, umm, so do tell, how do you know? Gull, Do you mean the bashed together LL units? hmmm, maybe pics tonight. Pete, Bob, Ed, Mike, Here is stays. hmm.
Steve: Are you going to make some grade areas above and below the basic mainline? You certsinly have enough foam to cut in some nice scenery. Stay cool and run steam.....
Bob, There is 4 ½ inches of foam. I am using 2” thick foam along the “front edge” of the table for structural reasons. I am also thinking about building “slide / drop in” modules on 2” foam that would be interchangeable at places along the front edge. The “1/2 inch” of foam will be “cookie cutted”. The two curves on the western, (left), edge: The inner one will drop two inches from the yard to the Eastern end of the table. This will likely be way too steep and require some redesign. The outer one will climb at least two inches and probably more but will be level along the convex curved portion. I envision this as a major photo opp on 28 inch radius. I am going to take the time to test how steep a grade I can get away with. The strong recommendations of the folks here, (at Trainboard), is about 2 percent. I am going to see how far I can "push the curve" and leave the ability to reduce the grade if later I find it was too much. I will document the results. In the end I am sure I will say, “you told me so”. J
