What do you guys think about Kato announcing their new passenger train in conjunction with the NMRA convention? I'll still bet on a Broadway Ltd, with El Capitan a distant second...

They have been producing this train for a few months now, its just a matter of getting it here and onto shelves.

I think we will see some nice announcements from Kato over the next week...

    BZ:

I think you are almost correct on the timing.
But sadly not so right on the consist. I'd like to see one of those you mentioned.
But, I believe that what we have been told directly leads me to believe what's coming will be much closer to one mentioned by a government employee in this thread than to any other posting.

Well, unfortunately, I don't know who that is. I do remember someone saying something about an SP Daylight a while back. Gosh, that would be a misery, as Centralia is out with those cars.

Perhaps Leon has shared with the dealer community something different. If you know something, please let us know.

Okay, can someone out there perform the George-to-English translation on this one? I haven't a clue who works for the government, but would really like to know what might be coming from Kato!

I remember guys talking about an SP train, and a B&O train. Couple of suggestions about the usual suspects, NCL, EB, El Cap, Sunset Ltd, TCL, Bdwy Ltd.

We will see in the next week.

The person who posted it knows I'm typing about him and has seen this thread since my last posting. He stood next to me in Houston on Sunday morning @ the WGH last year and discussed the specific train with Leon. Further, we three discussed the motive power needed to pull it. Two currently available locomotives were mentioned and one that would need to be developed was discussed. Unfortunately this train was never a visitor to Vaughn and I'll be (thankfully I guess) hard pressed to justify how it would get detoured anywhere near the area so I can luckily breath easy and not start drooling. However, if what I was told is in fact true, it might fit Deb's definition of "cute" and could be run on the N-Trak layout.

I guess we'll all know next Friday. I never thought of a passenger train as being cute.

    hmmmmm....

    Maybe the Capitol Limited?

Or... The Colorado Eagle with those unique E units...

    Or... Better YET...

The Sam Houston Zephyr with an E5A motive power!

Please, please be the Capitol Limited - or the National Limited - or the Fast Flying Virginian - or the George Washington...
Any manufacturers/importers take note - there are B&O/C&O fans out here - and we do have some disposable income...

    Daylight is Cute?

So... which NEW steamer would Kato make to pull the Daylight?

I still would love to see an E5 and those wierd looking E units MP used on their Colorado Eagle.

Looks like the east coasters will lose again... If in fact it is the Daylight. I will have to get another mortgage to pay for this release if it actually happens.

    Guys,

I do not know what the next passenger trains is. George and I did talk to Leon at the WGH Show in Houston last year. I do work for the government. Other than that, I don't have any insider information just high hopes!

So now you know the rest of the story.

(Actually I'd like them to do something NYC so I can get an observation car to use on my KCS Southern Belle train.)

Thanks guys! We'll see what happens. My wallet would probably be relieved if it winds up going that direction. Although, a Coast Daylight using Kato's PA1s would look stunning.

I'd love the SP Daylight but as a 12yo I rode the Southern Crescent to Florida and it still brings back memories. That said, a B&O would be great too.

    Aha!
I'm a government employee too... and... I've spoken to Leon as well... but NOT at the WGH Show in Houston... nor anytime within the past year. :wink2:

    Does that confuse anyone?

Maybe we should ask the former Iraqi Minister of (dis)Information... he was a government employee too! :zip:

Well, that's it then. The only passenger trains that kato hasn't done yet that Deb would think was cute (providing it isn't one that has already been done b4) would be the Rio Grande smoothsides and the Pheobe Snow.

I have votive candles burning constantly in the basement at my Starrucca viaduct EL shrine.

--PS: I was told by a friend that my Kato stainless steel California Zepher set looks like generic passenger cars.....After looking at them they kind of do.

Ahhhh!!! You are killing me! I have sat back a few times and said the same thing, but they are about as prototypical as we are gonna get, and the CZ just happened to be stainless. Unfortunately, Kato's Super Chief is silver also.

What I'd really like to see out of Kato is a colorful proto train. Lots of opportunities: Brdwy Ltd, TCL, Cap Ltd, NCL, Golden State, Oly Hiawatha. So many good ones. Their Builder looks really sharp, but we've been over this one too many times on this board and why it works/doesn't work for people.

Lots of opportunitites, but lets not dis the CZ...especially with the great locos available for it.

Some would use the words "classic" or "elegant," especially with the black nose striped E/F units. :shade:

    Broadway Zepher / Norseman Jack:

I love my CZ with the Es. As for Kato I would buy anything that was ran east of the Mississippi & north of the Ohio. Though I would also take MILW. I was lucky at Caboose Hobbies last week. They had some individual Empire Builder cars. I bought a sleeper to run in my other Q stainless steel. I wish when they do these trains they would sell some induvidual cars I would buy a lot more Kato if they did.

I'm guessing you meant East of Chicago, as just about everything west crossed the Mississippi on the way to Chicago. That's the great thing about Kato's CZ, it doesn't matter what you model, they're just so darned hard to resist. Of course, I'm committed regardless....
