I've often thought about getting another CZ set. However, I have 14 other Kato Q stainless to use on other Zephyrs. With this I can intermix many other off line cars. If only they made them......
This brings up a interesting thought... I have the complete Empire Builder (15 cars)... but... I doubt an A/B/A set of F units would have been used to pull such a long consist. Were E8 or E7 units used with the F7 units to pull the EB or did they normally add extra F7B or F7A units?
GN didn't have any E8s. E7s were initially tried for the Empire Builder, but like the other mountain roads they were soon determined to not be optimal for the task at hand. I believe that extra F units were added in the Western regions for the mountain grades. Of course, the Empire Builder "split" in Eastern Washington, so the train got shorter at that point. Being a first class train, the EB motive power was likely relieved of the burden of pulling a lot of heavy head end equipment.
Suspense is heightened!!! A cute train from the east???? How about the southeast??? A Southern Crescent? An Orange Blossom Special? The Silver Meteor or Silver Star? I might actually get an OBS if Kato went 'out-on-a-limb' and made an accurate E4 A/B/A to go with it.... but... I doubt it will happen.
I never said that the 'cute' train was an eastern train. And now that Kato is more than 24hrs late from when we were told to expect the announcement I need a Coors or three!
AHA!... now I'm more confused than ever... Okay... lets see... George' comment could have a hidden meaning... "I need a Coors or three'... hmmm... what could that mean???? George wants to get a little buzz... that's it!!!! A buzzsaw... as in the MOPAC buzzsaw!!!! Maybe it is a Colorado Eagle!!!! Wait a minute... that is not an eastern road.... but... it is further east than the other trains Kato has announced... although it goes east from Denver to St Louis...
Geez, this is worse than waiting to find out what happens to Harry Potter. At least if its an eastern train I can put my credit card away.
Well, there is always the Dixie Flagler. Ran between Chicago (take note Kato) and Florida over five different roads. The CE&I, L&N, NC&StL and FEC diesels should not be too hard. The AB&C streamlined Pacific might be a little tougher. Ben
NO meaning to Coors Dang, I lived in Colorado three times. Littleton 75-81, and again in Denver from 90 thru 91, I lived in Alamosa from 95-2001. I drink Coors Light and I'm very frustrated that announcements are not being made when we were told to expect them. I'd like a beer. NO implication was intended. I like to think of myself as a modeler. Yes I accept comprimises. BUT, I would not buy a Silver Bullet train. I would not even try to promote such a train. I'm not sure that we'd even sell it if it was offered.
I'm curious as to why the announcement would be delayed... It's not like there's going to be a last minute change. I can just see them gearing up to do the Broadway Limited... Production schedules, plans, maybe even pilot models. And then, the day of the announcement, someone says "Ya know, on second thought... Let's do the 20th Century!
By the 1950s, a GG1 pulled the Broadway Limited from New York's Penn Station as far as Harrisburg over the electrified New York and Philadelphia Divisions. At Harrisburg, the engine would be changed for a set of E7s or E8s for the run to Chicago since the catenary ended at Harrisburg. Kato already offers E8s painted for Pennsy in the post-1954 single-stripe scheme with the correct single-headlight nose. Many will argue that Kato's choice of Tuscan Red on this model leaves much to be desired. Nonetheless, it means Kato doesn't have to introduce a new loco to pull the Broadway. Now, if Kato does choose to offer a GG1, it might be the hottest news in eastern N scale modeling in years!
