Wow! Glad you guys are keeping me honest. Those ARE fluorescent lights, and that may be the cause of the tint - I honestly didn't notice all that much, probably all the yellow grass has desensitized my eyes... Color rendition is hard to control in small RGB JPG images on imprecisely calibrated monitors. It's also pretty easily corrected if you care to do so for your monitor. Let's face the completely ordinary fact that most people don't have carefully calibrated monitors, so color renditions will be all over the place--too yellow, too red, too green, etc. And let's not make a big deal out of it, OK? Now, I have a perfectly calibrated monitor. However, I'm mostly color-blind, so how would I ever know? Just joking--but in many cases, that's precisely the case here. No harm, no foul. Nothing wrong with pointing out something looks a little too yellow--I think we can move along now.
Nice job Jim!!! Question for those living near this area. Did UP and BNSF use "mesh curtains" to overlay the rock cuts after they daylighted the tunnels to keep debris from falling on the tracks? I can't remember if I saw pics with this done or not. Thanks, Brian
That would be an interesting model. Bridal veil or some tight mesh cloth? Similar to material for modeling a chain link fence?
When BNSF did Cajon, they used shotcrete - at least that's what it looked like - but that would be pretty boring, which is why I did it this way. I like the idea of a curtain - you're always gonna have chunks coming off...Thanks, guys!
Did a bit more work at wedding cake curve - trees, weeds, weathering. I'll be looking for some bridal veil material Wednesday...a couple of Z trains with the latest power meet: And we were privileged to host a visitor last week: Charlie Vlk (on the left) was in the area and dropped by. We had a great time altogether, and ran some trains. And of course the train that's been running flawlessly for six weeks decided it was time to pull apart - more than once! Visitors are great - shows you where to put your energy. $%&^*&* Accumates!
Didn't get to spend all that much time on the layout this week - lots going on in other parts of the house (read honeydos) - but wedding cake curve now has a veil - wire mesh - to keep stones from fouling the track. A UP Stacker passes: And a different view:
jim the mesh looks good but i think you need some kind of steel cable anchored at the top to the bottom and weaved into the mesh:thumbs_up:

Wow. Simply amazing!! This is the kind of layout I can't wait to kick the kids out of the house and gut their rooms to build lol!! I still have about 18 years to wait, but I can look at this for inspiration in the mean time!! Your layout is awesome!

Don't I know it! My 3 year old loves to help and he is really good at it! I find that when I make trees my love of uniformity and order shows in the trees I make, but the randomness of a child's mind is able to make trees that are more naturally appealing because they don't look like they came from a factory, but rather grew in it's own unique way.
Thank you all! Scott, that's just plain old veil material - I got it at the local JoAnn store, cost a hot-poppin' buck and a half! They had lots of colors but I felt black was the way to go - most of the mesh I've seen tends to get black after it's been up for a while. Still working on securing cables...
