Our usual host Russell is enjoying a day offline so I volunteered to get this one started for him. Here's a new one from me showing off my Ultimate 4-4-0 and a fresh stack of firewood.
On the interchange bridge over the Seneca River. As it nears the yard limits at Seneca Falls Sub, this drifting J is moving more slowly than it was just five minutes ago.
Mark, is that a real wood burner? Nice shot! Crandell, love your bridge shots. An Alco RS1 East bound local passing through.
Here's a picture of my latest creation. This, along with the container facility itself, has been my Winter layout party project. Other than some fininshing details I am very happy with the end product. I'm nowhere near Pete Nolan's calaber but still think she looks pretty good in this corner of the layout. Brian
Excellent scene. I'd like info on how you built it. I'm in the final layout phase and have a spot that could be turned into a scene similar to yours. Great work!
I only have one problem with that dock scene...your a few hundred containers short. LOL Love the ship but I also have a soft spot for inter-modal.
Very Impressive... I think it looks good. I love intermodal once I have the space I want a similar scene. Cheers
Hull is 40"x5". The superstructure is 6" wide. Barely fits in the channel. Strictly a bulid as you go. No plans other than a couple pictures I found on the internet. As for the containers I have a couple options: http://www.igshansa.de/igsdownload.html or, http://cgi.ebay.com/N-Scale-10-40-X...wItemQQptZModel_RR_Trains?hash=item45f0f4a00f or take out a large loan against the house! :tb-biggrin: My biggest screw up on the facility is is not imbedding the crane rails into the mud. I had all good intentions to do so but got "modivated" to make a mess one day and didn't consult my construction notes. Too late to dig out grooves now so the eventual crane(s) will be free floating along the dock edge. Brian ps. Kudos to everyone participating in the thread this week. Some jaw dropping photography!!!
I vote you use the paper option for all the containers that will be buried or facing the wall. Save the expensive and detailed models for stuff that will actually be visible.
'Spose another option would be to slap a hunk of wood down on the deck that's cut in a stair step shape that would be invisible once I stack a few good containers on top. Ive built a half dozen of the paper skins and they really look good but they wouldn't support any kind of load if stacked up. I thought about wrapping the paper skins around some wooden blanks ala centerbeam load style to give them some rigidity and sharp edges. Brian
I would think a thick paper would be able to hold a few model containers with no problem. You could always scratch build some rough containers using a larger scale metal siding styrene as well.
Nice work everyone! Love that intermodal scene. Taking it slow over the pond (the sky was photo-shopped in):
