Paper! Hiya. A fun-project just finished. Paper switch-tower from ScaleScenes with added laser-cut stairs and illuminated with nGineering LEDs. Regards, Jim Maurer Tokushima, Japan
Gotta love those SP Alcos. Nice pic. There's not much scenery in this shot, but here is the first test train entering the new trackage at Clarksville Jct.
SNFF 2010 02 14 In honor of the upcoming BLI PA2 availability, for comparison sake, here is the Kato PA1 in Santa Fe, with some light weathering: It's a great time to be in N scale.
Wooden Freight Car Decks I started weathering my H0 scale flat car wooden decks. It is just scribed with a razor saw and then dyed with several colors of acrylic wash. I decided to try it on N scale; seems like it works about the same. My N scale car with the scribed deck is in the center; the un-scribed, but weathered flat car deck is in the front.
Great stuff guys! Sadly, I have nothing to contribute this weekend. Work has been kicking my butt the last couple of weeks. Twice this week, 3:00am phone calls for production system issues. Monthly outage was Saturday night, and I spent all day today cleaning up problems resulting from that. I've slept about 7 hours since going to bed Friday night.
Brian: I love that intermodal scene. Great workmanship on the boat! Another option for containers are the new castings from Fine N Scale: http://www.finenscale.com/ Near the bottom of this page there are bulk container castings that are ganged 4 wide. You get 16 40' or 32 20' containers for $15.95 MSRP. Perfect for this application, though still pricier than paper, and you need to paint them. -Gary P.S. Really nice photos in this thread everyone.
I grew up in the San Jose, Ca area and SP SD9s were always around, usually in sets of three. Later, when I moved to Santa Rosa, Ca. along the NWP, there were my old friends, the SD9s, working trains up to Ukiah. You'd think I'd be an SP modeler.
