There's the problem with N scale. Not the lack of any specific model, but the whole marketing scheme and how it affects modellers. All the limited runs and models staying in production for short times. The general steam shortage and the poor quality of many steamers. All this means that decisions on what model to buy are influenced heavily by "what's just come out" and "what runs well". We need manufacturers to make a whole line of (not just a few) good-quality models, and keep them in production for a long time, so that modellers can buy what they actually want. In this thread http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=76909 a recent announcement from Kato is mentioned. They appear to be moving toward this model.
BALDWIN LOCOMOTIVE WORKS. It would be nice to see more of the boxy roadswitchers and yard switchers from this builder. The Atlas VO-1000 and EuroRails RF-16 are the only ones produced in N scale... right??? Some AS15/16, AS415/416, AS615/616, RS12, Some VO-660 or DRS4-4-750 would be nice too. How about the big transfer units DTS-6-6-2000? Look here: http://www.northeast.railfan.net/di...QA0AAADcedgN&bcsi_scan_filename=diesel82.html

I'd like to see a nice cab forward, similar to this one: http://www.ironhorse129.com/Projects/Engines/NPC_21/NPC_No21.htm
o.k. this is it for me...... 1) a nice c420 low&high nose 2) gp 15-1 3) atlas 8-40c 4) more versions of sd-40-2's-- mid 70s with flexi coil trucks,anti climber ala conrail 5)dcc ready sd-45-c30-7 gp38-2.............hello kato
There's a problem. Not all SDP40Fs looked alike. They can be divided into early and late production as-built, but ATSF's repeated modifications mean at least seven visibly distinct versions. -Early production (pointed nose doors, high headlights) as built - Amtrak Phase I, II, III -Late production (flattened nose doors, high headlights) as built - Amtrak Phase I, II, III -ATSF 1984-85 resembles late production with front platform, new trucks and no steam generator -ATSF 1985-88 as above with wraparound front handrail -ATSF 1988 as above with nose headlights -ATSF 1988-2001 as above with notched nose (also patched to BNSF) -ATSF 1988-2001 as above with high headlights (also patched to BNSF and Maersk) The as-built versions should also include EMD and Amtrak patched to ATSF for 1984.
I can't believe I'm dredging this up again - this is my 11th post in this thread! Narrow gauge. Specifically, narrow-gauge diesels. White Pass GE shovelnoses and DL-535Es. And since Z scale track is actually closer to 42-inch gauge than 36-inch gauge in N... Newfoundland Railway G8s, G12s, NF110s and NF210s.
Well, if I can't have Baldwin Centipedes, and other can't have Cab-Forwards, then how about a bunch of 0-8-0s? They could even be tender-powered.
ANY red brick structure with the eight sided cupola, much like you see in Maryland, Washington and Virginia. More wooden commercial structures Sectional street track A ten wheeler. Steel industry rolling stock A US prototype electric freight motor ( a small one for a trolley line, not the bruisers that the PRR and CMStP&P ran) A Baldwin road switcher. Some nineteenth century non-box type cars. A B&O waggontop caboose.
1. GP15-1 2. Coalveyour Gondolas (other version with fewer ribs) in PGEX so I can run one of the few protoypical coal trains through the Pacific North West 3. GP50s in BN Tiger Stripe (need 2 old Kato's don't cut it. Don't want to kitbash one) 4. Readily available 89' TOFC/COFC cars (need a few more, tired of waiting on MT) 5. Intermountain ACF 4650 in CBQ and Lincoln Grain Elevator(have a couple of projects in mind) 6. Modern LPG tank cars (for that matter any new tank cars would be nice) 7. Thrall High side gondolas in BN (need about 25 or 30)
Do you know the heritage on that Heisler? It looks to be a 50-tonner and I helped rebuild one in 1980 on the Dry Gulch & Tombstone in Virginia.
Tony: As for (6), how about the coming Athearn alcohol tanks? Sound good to me, esp as some will come as just plain UTLX.
They look nice. They are too modern for my era. It seems like there is an unlimited amount of different tank cars out there on the rails. If you look at quality models on the market there are probably less than a dozen. Would be nice to get 2 or 3 new tank cars released a year that were up to Atlas standards. Here are some carbon monixide tankers that are at the Tre Pol plant all the time. http://www.railimages.com/gallery/Railfan/abj
