While I'm obsessed with that part of Montana... Does anyone have a photo of/or was there ever a depot, or any RR structure at Sixteen? Thanks very much.
Yes. There was a depot at Sixteen. Early on, there were very few blind sidings on the Pacific Extension. The depot at Sixteen was a portable, but placed originally when Lines West came into operation. It was a Standard Class D of 1909, variant twelve feet by twenty eight feet. See my web site, link in signature below, home page scroll down to "TOUR" and explore. Boxcab E50
Oops. forgot- There is at least one poor quality photo of the Sixteen depot. I have a copy on slide. My scanner is a pile of cow dung, but I might be able to coax it into action at another time. I know John Dornfeld should also have a copy. He also built an HO model of Sixteen, I think possibly for Nate Molldrem. You could try contacting JD. He may be a bit slow to respond, as he's been a bit under the weather lately. Boxcab e50
Yes. (HO scale.) Although not necessarily of Sixteen, it is the correct style and paint. I would want to make certain it was okay to post. I am sure it would be. Boxcab E50
Thanks so much Boxcab!!!!!! I may have to order some prints from you soon. When I was poking around there I noticed a "trough" in the dirt where it looked like a stub track used to branch from the main. I may be asking about some other deots in the area. Thanks again!!
Got the thumbs up from JD to share his Class D model pictures. Here they are: http://www.train-orders.com/MILW/DBJ/DBJ.html The top picture shows five different styles of Class D. In that photo, the model at right should be what Sixteen looked like, so long ago. Enjoy. Boxcab E50
Note- I've modified the topic title. This so our search engine will have a better chance of bring the thread back up at some future date. Boxcab E50
Hi - Just for information. PRIOR to the Olympian and Columbian transcontinental service, here was the schedule at Sixteen in 1911. Westbound (from Mobridge to Seattle) train No. 3 stopped at Sixteen at 11:35 am daily. Eastbound (from Seattle to Mobridge) train No. 3 stopped at Sixteen at 5:21 pm daily. The schedule for Mindon (stop between Sixteen and Ringling) was about twenty minutes different. The Milw. also ran trains Nos. 97 (westbound) and 98 (eastbound) from Mobridge to Harlowton three days a week.
So Boxcab, If one were to paint their model of the Sixteen depot (D-1) in the colors that John did (in the pictures you posted), one would not be laughed at too loudly? I am very tempted to include this depot model on my layout, although I know it was long gone by my era's time frame. I dunno, once you have actually set foot in Sixteen, even though the railroad is gone, I am still inspired. I'm wierd like that I guess..
The only one(s) who'd laugh would be those who did not know MILW history. Those colors were real and verified. Go ahead and paint!
