NYC 1856 - it is New York Central

    Ok, so this isn't exactly Big Four, but it is New York Central and it was just too good to not put up. Where else do you find a sign (poster) from 1856 in this good a condition. It's rather large (188k) and may be a bit slow to load, but it is really worth the wait. Enjoy!

    That's amazing, considering this was only 25 years after the first train ran in the US, and that was down in Maryland. Then consider that it took only 5 hours to travel the 150 miles from Albany to New York. That's an average of 30 miles per hour, an amazing feat for those original experimental wheazing teakettles.

    I agree, Roger, that flyer is in wonderful condition being more than 150 years old. The high acid content of paper back then usually caused it to consume itself.

    That really is in excellent shape. It's interesting to see Albany and Troy advertised--the route through the Mohawk Valley, my old haunts.
