These drawings are taken for a series of Sanborn Maps of Anderson in 1900. They show a turn-table at John street and 6th and 7th streets. I never knew that there was one there until 4 years ago when I was told that the Michigan Division of the Big Four had one at that location. Note that it says that the back wall is in dilapidated condition. This would say that it was already several years old by 1900. Seventh Street is coming into the roundhouse at the left and the right running up the tracks is John street. At least that was what was platted at that time. How the street ran along the railroad track is more than I can guess.
Hi Roger, I accidentally stumbled upon this yard in May when I went to Anderson Speedway, just north of the yard. You can still see the foundation
That was South Anderson Yard. There was a rather large roundhouse there. This one was over at John Street and was unnoticed until the map showed up. A little after the turn of the last century it was torn down and 7th street continued over the spot where the roundhouse was. There is nothing left of it. In south Anderson, you can still see the foundation of the building.
