Construction of Old Line at Hillsboro Illinois
Reverse indicates: "View Looking East from Station 1861 - Feb. 8, 1904
[reproduced from a glass plate in Cincinnati Ohio HQ, and mounted on linen]. Hillsboro IL is west of Mattoon. In later years the CCC&STL constructed a newer alignment, thus the characterization, Old Line. LAB

Wow, I love the ties, and the rail. The New York Central sure came a long way after that was taken.
Roger, have you seen the latest NYC Headlight? There are two photos taken in Anderson in 1955, from the James Suhs collection. Most of the photos in the issue are MC or Big Four. :tb-biggrin:

Reminiscent of photos of the Panama Canal construction, though far less elaborate. I especially like the untreated ties which are no more than debarked raw cut logs.

Roger, you certainly have access to some fascinating photos....thanks very much!!!

Another look from the Construction on the Old Line at Hillsboro, IL... No doubt these steam shovels were employed at the Panama Canal in this same year???? - LAB
