    All those steamers around in those days and it was just an everyday thing for those guys and most of us would be going nuts.

    Roger, thank you for that photo. That was a very large locomotive for that time. It is an early consolidation (2-8-0). Stauffer's NYC Early Power, page 276, has photos of what appear to be its siblings, slide valves and all. Road numbers look like 728 and 733. The captions say they were built by Brooks 1901-1902. It also says the stacks were painted red.
