While the overall design of that building is nice, I think you’re gonna be disappointed with the end results, unless you plan on doing an extensive amount of rework on it. The step lines on that “particular” 3-D printed product is near impossible to overcome unless you plan on spending hours sanding and grinding.

I bought one of these similarly produced buildings off of eBay to see what the quality was like. I was not impressed. You can see in the attached pics, I did an extensive amount of sanding on three of the wall, but when it came to the front, there was just no way to get rid of the step lines to make the building look presentable.

I thought about sanding the windowsills down and then inserting a piece of material to simulate red brick in the recessed area. But unfortunately you would lose some of the character of the windows.

Needless to say, I put this building in my box of “to be done another day” projects. Not sure if I’ll take it on or not. The quality is just not there.

    Lance,
Where I work, we have two types of RP machines. Two SLA machines and one FDM machine. I'm sure you know the building above is from the FDM process and it never really finishes well, even with a lot of work. The FDM parts tend to delaminate around details as you sand. They get "fuzzy" as you can see in your pictures. I prefer the SLA parts myself, finer details and better finishing results.

    Thanks for sharing this product.

Noted Scott and I would probably say you’re more of an expert at 3-D products than I am although I am rapidly learning.

However the one question I have is, what quality level are we as Z-scalers willing to put up with? Case in point Carlos Pinto is producing some fantastic vehicles with excellent finishes. But we also pay a commensurate price for the quality. I personally don’t mind paying a little extra for high-quality.

Now the building I bought was under $15. But the quality was not there either. Venture to say after seeing this level of quality, I will most likely not buy other buildings of a similar nature.

It’s kind of hard to put a poorly produced 3-D building on your layout, next to a quality produced one from Mike Basher. Unless you’re willing to do an extensive amount of rework to bring these buildings up to snuff. I’d rather start with a quality product, which means less work in the long run.

I’m hoping that someone out there with a high quality 3D SLA RESIN printer can start popping out some fantastic buildings for us.
