I am sure you guys have seen these, lot of them look good, I might be interested. Maybe the point to point or one of the modified ovals. How realisticly can these be done, they look possible to me. I like all the sidings, this is what I want to do I think. Is this overkill with trackage at all ?

    Thanks Tony

A number of designs on that site look very toyish, but most on that specific page look good enough... at first glance. None of them have a runaround/passing track.

Now I get what you meant about turning trains in the other thread. Most of these layouts can't be switched.

There's a reason many people recommend

On average, the layouts here are much better designs than on thortrains.

I'd say the best general-purpose 2x4s there are

    Also worth looking at

http://www.cke1st.com/Trkplans/2x40002.gif - probably needs another crossover

http://www.cke1st.com/Trkplans/2x40010.gif - but could do with modification to either make it fully double-track or more clearly single track with a siding.

    Ah yes indeed, Great plans.
I have been on Mikes site and even e mailed him I can;t open the files for some reason wish I could. I can always go with one of these plans and try to figure out all the pieces of track needed but as a newcomer I would rather use a plan that gives me the track needed info.

The files you download from Mad Mikes are zip files (compressed files) and you must unzip them before they are usable.

If you are running Windows XP, you can right click on the file - then select the "Extract All" feature to unzip the file.

Once unzipped, use Atlas RTS software to read them.

    Tony:
I notice you have an AOL email address. Are you using AOL as an ISP? That may be the problem and why it took me 3 tries to email you that track plan.

??// Maybe I have never had problems in the past though, this PC is also on it's last legs.
Whenever I try to open the file no matter where I do it it comes up as corrupted ? Who knows?

    Thanks Tony

Tony,MadMike's layouts are nicely design except and IMHO overloaded with track..I used one of his designs on my short lived 2x4' layout but,I modified it by removing what I consided track overkill.

The reason my 2x4' layout was short lived is :1) I'm not really into loop de loop running.2)Unitrack #6 switches is IMHO a tad to long for small layouts.

As far as Thor's layout design while interesting most needs tweak to become workable.
