The Cheap, Easy, and Qick, (CEQ) RR
Based on Linn H. Wescott's plan #10 in "101 Track Plans". The original was a point to point close to the "green" line.

I see this easily expanded in any direction.
I don't plan to build this any time soon but I do need a "race track" to test engines and rolling stock.

Most likely I will be laying this out with Unitrak just for gins.
    Enjoy

Seems like that would be enough to keep me busy for a very long time. How come you don't just build that and make it permanent and then expand later when you run out of bare plywood?

Here's a little one I dreamed up once. Don't remember the exact size, looks like 2 and a half by 3 and a half...

Talk about a switching challenge!!! That will make my head hurt [IMG] Looks good and like you said, you could expand that at a later date with not too much effort. I like it.

I’m tempted to. I could store it under the currently table work until I feel I have the experience to proceed. Very Tempted.

Nice, Simple and Sweet. I like it like that. (reminds me of an old girlfriend of mine) : )

    Matt
Thanks. It is up to the builder. This could be modeled in any era, (though shorter cars would be best due to sharp curves and small size. I see one or two industries on each spur but not at the tip of the Green Line. I see a Freight Station at the top of the ladder track, It could be any setting from a logging to a mine, paper mill, or? What say you? I can send the original *.bmp file to anyone who would like to scenic it.

Does anyone want to do a XtraCad version?

This is close to the original for those who are curious.

Grey, as the Nike folks used to say "Just do It" [IMG]

Since the very first day you showed up here all you do is talk about how much you like this plan. Every track plan you post on here has this plan incorporated into it. I have this hunch that this is the layout for you. ;)

If you build it you can always save the structures and reuse them on another layout some other time. I think this is the layout for you. hint hint hint. [IMG]

That layout should have 40' freight cars or smaller and diesels should have no more than 4 axles.

For steam you can use a 2-8-0 or 2-6-0.

That is a great switching layout.

Ha ha I'll be right out to help build that layout sir. Just you wait and see. ;)

In all seriousness that layout looks to have most everything you would need to get rolling.

    Steve:

24" isn't a long reach at all. The layout doesn't have to be placed against a wall.

This layout can also be mounted aginst the wall as a large small shelf layout.  [IMG]

I must admit I'd be curious to see how a door size version would look.
If you do decide to build this one you may want to concider connecting a reverse loop in there somewhere so it's not always one direction, I think that would give it more opperational longjevity.

Bob Correct, but the rear access is needed since the track including a postential staging hard is hidden under the the Green Line.

John - Good idea about the reverse.

Question: Um, I have been calling the "interior" section "Green". um, is it green or blue?
    Thanks!

    Steve :

If you work on a small area at a time, you won't have that ovewhelmed feeling.

I still have about 20% of the scenery to finish on the JJJ&E.

I think the idea of doing a quick and easy layout is a really good idea. I had large dreams and had to pull back to reality a little bit. Part of my drift back to reality is that I am not as skilled as some others on here. I need a couple more practice layouts under my belt, before the dream layout can be built.

My N scale layout is progressing on a door panel that is 28" wide. I am very pleased about this because at a later date I will be able to incorporate this layout into something else. I'm not even thinking about how it will fit with something else. The main thing is to get a layout. The other thing is I want to hold Ops sessions with my buddies. i'm hoping that will happen before too long.

HO scale time saver layout. This one is built and runs, but I need to repair some couplers before I can get it fully running. Looking through some junk boxes last night I found some #5 Kadee, so I guess I had already planned this a while back. [IMG]

I have lots of other dream layouts I want to build at some later date.

The 12x12 HO shelf layout with European prototype passenger trains running on it. Save this one for later.

The HO track plan from 1976 MR magazine. Marquette and Independance, I think thats the name of it. Only I would build it with HO track and run On30 trains on it. 14'x4' save this one for later.

Back to your layout Grey. If you have the benchwork done for the dream layout, why not build a single level layout on just part of it. You can always add to it later. The main thing is to get something that runs.

    In the "Phase III" area.

Guys: I'm tied up with commitmants through the weekend. I'll post here what I decide by Monday. Night.

    Thanks.
