I don't have a layout, but I have 10 locomotives in the Harlowton Rebuild Center waiting to be detailed, painted, and weathered in preparation for the day I have some place to run them. I may start acquiring rolling stock too. I've been thinking about building an N scale HCD layout too... With a baby on the way, who knows what will actually get done.

Oh boy. Where to begin. There are so many things I would like to complete on my layout this year. Here is what I can think of right now:

    Scenery:
    - Install backdrop on rear of long portion of layout.
    - Paint backdrop on divider.
    - Paint backdrop on rear of long portion of layout.
    - Build kits for PC Furniture and Alliance Cannery (beverage distributor siding).
    - Cover building blanks with Model Builder printed buildings.
    - Grind up couch cushions for ground foam.
    - Ballast track.
    - Add grade crossings for streets (2).
    - Build kits for retail shop areas.
    - Create streets from soupy plaster poured into forms.
    - Pave streets with brick paper (going for early 1900s look even though locos are mid-1940s).
    - Install trees, bushes, and grass/weeds.

    Rolling Stock:
    - Modify 0-6-0 switcher for tender power pickup.
    - Add weight to 0-6-0 tender.
    - Add weight to 2-8-0 tender. Possible rewiring of decoder.
    - Add weight to 4-6-0 tender. Again, possible rewiring of decoder.
    - Check weight of freight cars.
    - Replace all plastic freight car wheels with metal wheels.
    - Modify a boxcar for track clenaing/polishing using spring loaded fine knife sharpening block.

    Electrical:
    - Rebuild accessory decoder mounting block.
    - Install wiring for remaining turnouts leading to accessory decoder mounting block.
    - Install local push button controls for throwing turnouts.
    - Install LED indicators for turnout positions.
    - Install slow motion motors on remaining turnouts.
    - Install Photo transistor detectors for staging tracks (end of track and clear of turnout indicators).

    Gonna be a fun year!

My project for the New Year is to figure out how to store a Z scale briefcase layout in a (small) New York City apartment. :)

    Let's see,

    1) I have to finish my Oakwood module for MiNi Modutrak for the NMRA show.
    2) Do more research on modeling The Soo Line's Laker
    3) Buy some more locos and rolling stock.
    4) Hopefully find a home with a basement and layout room.

Ditto On that one. Not to mention a really huge yard so I can run track in and out of the house/basement :)

My project is to get my layout to the point of operation. It's only a HCD, but it seems getting time to get to the shop to buy the track is hard to come by.

My next big project has already started which is the backdrop and scenery on the back side of the peninsula. This will be a winter scene. Other projects:

Complete decoder installations - I have I think 7 to go? One or two may be sound.
Paint, weather and letter a few more locomotives and some more rolling stock.
(Wait - before that add Find an Effective Way to Strip Paint That Will Not Poison Me. Alcohol, paint thinner, decal setting solution - the paint, he laughs and thumbs his nose at them!)
Build that Bowser USRA 4-6-2 that has been on the shelf for about three years now...
Go back and detail some more scenes on the old section where the buildings are, like, not there.
Catch more fish (wait, what forum is this?)

My list is sorta-kinda modeling related:
    1) Find a better paying job
    2) Buy a basement with a house mounted on top.
    3) Start on layout planning

If I can get #1 done and start on #2, 2010 will be a very good year!

    My list:

Build a small switching layout so I can at least run some trains, and get basic scenery and some buildings on it.

    Finish my locomotive scratchbuilding/kitbashing projects

Paint, decal, and install lighting for the nearly finished locomotives I have lying around

Make resin copies of the BNSF super reefer parts I made so that I can build a few of them.

Bring the remaining sections into the house to set up the basic "around the room" skeleton. Hope to do that before January school term starts.

Lay track to complete at least this much.

Add pasteups of structures and etc to complete background--so I can be building layout in FRONT of it.
Actually the BG is pretty much mostly installed in room and on sections--but details not completed.

Put a thatched fake-Polynesian roof on Paradise Palms pier nightclub and mirror-ball lighting.

Be able at least to run a train around and around the loop. This train on the causeway is "posed" on track not yet ballasted or powered.

And I want to progress work on my History Masters and get something published in a scholarly journal, such as my recent study of the 1920s Ku Klux Klan in Corpus Christi.

    On my list:

Finish scenery on the new tunnel portals

Scenic up the Sand Patch Tunnel and liner(on the layout!)

Got some authentic cinders from B&O's steam age out at the real Sand Patch and use it between the tracks with the ballast

Due to unemployment and impending eviction from my rental home of 9 years, my only project is to return my engines and rolling stock to their jewel boxes, carefully pack buildings and trees, and figure out how to store the layout without to much damage.
Just another victim of these tough economic times.

    My 2010 to-do list:

    • Work out some track kinks on the main line with some new track.
    • Come up with a plausible-looking poultry feed mill
    • Work on the scene for a pulpwood loading yard
    • Model a small Arkansas town
    • One word- trees.
    • If I can convince the missus (or squirrel away enough coin), think about DCC.

    In order of priority:

    1) Finish "Special Module #2" before our NTrak club's next confirmed setup at Winslow Railroad Days.

    2) Finish "Special Module #1", same as above. #2 has a higher priority than #1 due to utilitarian considerations.

    3) Complete NTrak 4' Corner module. Benchwork has been done for better than a year, module just lurks in the garage waiting for some attention.

    4) Install wired decoders into my Kato Mikados. Add their details as well.

    5) Build some buildings.

Sell about 60 percent of my "over accumulated" rolling stock and locomotives.

    1. Get an oval of track running
    2. Add scenery
    3. Finish the yard
And if I achieve financial stabilty with credit cards paid off:
Extend the layout around 3 sides of the living room.
