Ok how well do 3 axle locos fare on 15" curves? Trying to layout out a curve and I keep coming into one short spot as 15".

Most of my visible mainline is 15.5" radius and hidden track even less. My Kato SD70ACE's and FVM Gevo's work fine, never had a derailment. I use Atlas N code 65 sectional.

This is my predicament. I have found the need to alter my track plan just a bit to make it more pleasing to the eye. I am using HO and whether I alter it or not I find a small section needs a 15" curve or I scratch the trestle idea and stick in a S curve. Any suggestions? [IMG]

It all depends, if you are an N Scaler, GREAT! HO, most likely to derail

If possible, create a temporary curve on your work bench. Test the engine on that, and try it with a few cars as well.

Indeed. I've run SD-40's on 11" curves in N-scale without problems.

looks like a job for FLEX-TRACK! I would start the curve earlier and ditch a straight bridge...a wider, curved bridge would work....like this....

Thanks for the pic and reply. I plan on using flex track in the final build and track laydown. Right now I am using pieces of curved track to see how it would fit and then glue the foam incline down on the curve made. How did you do the curved bridge? I started the curve clear back on the peninsula area. The curve pieces I am going with are 18", two of the starters are 24".

I did not do that, Mike Danneman did it in N Scale, he either bought the girders or cut the girders off and attached them to the benchwork.

Ok I think I have it figured out. I was able to remove the 15" curve completely. I increased the radius from 18 to 24 coming off the hill. As it gets close to the bridge it becomes 18" and then does a slight jog onto the bridge. Continuing with 18" radii to the switch which was moved about a foot and a half. Here are some pics.
