I followed a link to the site below and saw some great old advertising posters. The site has them organized in several catagories, but the link below begins 12 pages of them. They are available as reprints, but that's not why I'm posting this. I thought some would enjoy looking at them as much as I did. There are maybe 10 railroad specific ones scattered among the pages. http://www.plan59.com/prints/ I'm not associated with this site blah blah ... ACLer
Interesting site! A whole bunch of nostalgia there! As this isn't really an N scale topic, I'm going to move it over to a proto RR catch-all forum. The Ready Track.. Boxcab E50
ACLer, that site sure brought back a lot of memories to this old guy. Back when Detroit was still producing Kaiser, Frazer, Studebaker, Packard, DeSoto, and oh those fins on Cadillacs and others as they grew to grotesque size ('59). The first "wrap around" windshields. Boy, as a teen back then I went nuts over those new cars.
I'd say that I recognize most of those posters from their initial release, but I refuse to admit that I'm That OLD!!!!! Regards the Edsel poster...While I was in the Air Force stationed at Biloxi, MS, the local Edsel Dealer (about to declare bankruptcy) offered me his remaining eight (8) cars at $300 each! BUT...I had to take ALL eight! Man, was that ever a deal..., but where the H... would a young Airman get $2400..... A few years ago, a showroom condition '58 Edsel was auctioned for $50,000....
Here are the RR specific images for quick reference. However I'd recommend checking the cars out too, as Fitz did. I found a few that brought back memories of some old family cars I hadn't recalled in years. http://www.plan59.com/av/av168.htm http://www.plan59.com/trucks/trucks075.htm http://www.plan59.com/av/av311.htm http://www.plan59.com/av/av312.htm http://www.plan59.com/av/av315a.htm http://www.plan59.com/av/av043.htm http://www.plan59.com/av/av227.htm http://www.plan59.com/trucks/trucks008.htm http://www.plan59.com/trucks/trucks035.htm ACLer
Hank- Did you see the Barrett-Jackson auction two weeks ago. At least one Edsel sold there. Can't remember how much. But beyond $50K. Boxcab E50
I would suggest a move to the Inspection Pit. The reason for the suggestion is that the pictures are downloadable. If anyone would be interested in using the same as a billboard or such and reduced to appropriate size, they could contact the owner of the pictures for permission and payment for the privilege.
