Today I received a postcard in the mail, not sure if it came from SBRHS or AAPRCO, but it officially announced that 3751 WILL power the AAPRCO convention train from LA to San Diego on September 21, a Sunday. If anyone wishes to ride, contact AAPRCO for availability of seats on any of these beautifully restored private cars. Website is http://www.aaprco.com Phone contacts (714) 546-6923 or (818) 606-8105. I really wanted to go on this one, but am bummed about driving almost 2000 miles to make it happen. Any of you southern Cal guys on here who can get out to chase or ride, consider it an obligation to post photos here!!!!:tb-biggrin::tb-rolleyes:
Pretty much HAVE to if it runs under Amtrak rules. No matter, the consist is really a collection of great cars, and is pretty long, so much so that they will have to split it up to fit into San Diego's terminal. Sure wish I were going. :tb-sad:
Three P42's are riding behind 3751 this time. On June 1st there was only P42 117. Consist: ATSF 3751 Amtrak Diesel (cab facing rear) Amtrak Diesel (cab facing forward) Amtrak Diesel (cab facing rear) City of Spokane Northern Dreams Northern Sky Birch Grove The Observatory Chapel Hill Salisbury Beach Overland Trail City of Angeles Tolani Silver Lariat Colonial Crafts Pony Express Caritas Pointe St. Charles Hollywood Beach Colorado Pine Two Rivers Burrard Louis Sockalexis Virginia City Bella Vista Palm Leaf Scottish Thistle Palmetto State (this car is listed on the AAPRCO site but not on my list so I will include it here)
All I know is what is posted on the AAPRCO site with a link in my first post. They have not posted any time schedule, but I'm guessing leaving LA about 8 AM, if they intend to be in San Diego at noon or so, and then leaving San Diego about 3. As I said, this is a guess. Good luck to you who are chasing. :tb-confused:
A couple of messages on other boards mentioned a 7:30a departure from 8th St. yard LA, Camp Pendleton water stop southbound, Old Town SD arrival 12:30p. Cars stored at Tecolote while engines are turned at Miramar Wye. 4p Old Town departure. Stuart Mesa water stop northbound. Of course no guarantee any of this is accurate but this is the info I'm following for now. Hopefully this will help some. Chris
A couple of photos from the southbound run Sunday morning. Water stop at Fallbrook Jct. at Batiquitos Lagoon.
