Here's my first try at resin printing T Gauge covered hoppers.

I tried printing them right side up, but they're basically hollow and there just wasn't enough support to keep them from printing poorly.

I'm currently trying again with them laying on their side.

Nicely enough, there appears to be plenty of detail.

I think I'll hang on to them, they might be cool as scenery objects. 20240320_175959.jpg

Try number two. I forgot to tighten the bed mount. Sigh, I do that occasionally. Anyway this was the best of the five prints on the bed, still not good enough.

I'm giving it one more try tonight.

Huh, I didn't notice the hairs.

Weird how they are malformed in all the same way... o_O

Those would be good to simulate a train wreck or wreck-damaged cars at the car shops. Or take two good halves of and make one good car from each pair. (I'm thinking in HO kitbashing mindset... so there might be differences in T)

Good for showing size. Cheaper than a dime.:p

    Keep trying.

Yeah, if you have a macro lens for your camera, hide or sell it.

I just bought a new resin printer online, my trusty dusty Anycubic Photon is acting very strange. It printed a large rectangular block instead of covered hoppers, re slicing the model twice came out with the same results in testing, the screen lights up and just stays lit up.

Yeah, that ain't right. There is a mode for the whole screen to light up like that, used for cleaning the vat. It is probably stuck in that mode, might try unplugging the printer, let it sit for a minute to let capacitors discharge, plug it in and try a small print. Just a wild guess, never had that happen...

    No go. Good idea though.

I've had that printer for four years and it's been mostly trouble free. But it was a pretty inexpensive printer so I have no complaints.

At least I have the model i want to print so I'll give it another go when the new printer arrives.

Neat, I was going to post a reply but changed my mind and don't know how to cancel my post. :)

Problem solved, the issue was caused by a software update. I went back to another slicer I use, but am less fond of and everything's fine.

But I still can't get a great print of those covered hoppers. I did manage to print one though that will pass for detail, though on one side the ladder and railing failed to print. I'm gonna live with it.

I have an 8K res resin printer coming, maybe it'll do a better job than my very inexpensive, small resin printer.

Hmmm, got me worried now, I just updated my Windows copy of Chitubox...

When you get the 8K printer (jealous, now...), we can start anew with failure analysis. My suggestion is to use the printer manufacturer's resin at their recommended settings to start, eliminates a lot of variables to tease apart in determining root cause of a failure.

I'm way ahead of you. I bought an Elegoo 8K resin printer and a liter of Elegoo water washable 8k resin.

My old printer is the Anycubic Photon and I almost always use grey Elegoo water washable resin.

I'd upgraded from Chitubox 1.8(ish) to Chitubox 2 Basic for Windows and that's when my printer started just lighting up the entire LCD panel on each layer. I had selected the Anycubic Photon in the Chitubox 2 Basic settings, but there's obviously a flaw somewhere in the settings, but I couldn't find it.

I also use the free version of Lychee (sp?), but I'm more fond of Chitubox.

Prusa's slicer supports some resin printers, but not the one I have and not the one I just ordered.

I did get one covered hopper to print well enough that I think I can get away with using it. the ladder and rails on one end failed the print, but they turned out great on the other end.

Oww, Chitubox 2.0 is what I installed last night. Was using 1.9.3 (on the jump drive that came with the printer), got a support placement problem that wouldn't let me put one in a particular spot, thought this would be a good time to upgrade. 2.0 apparently uses a different UI toolkit, so major changes all over. Made a slice file of a couple of small parts, but I think I'm going to dry-run the print without a vat first to make sure I'm not printing a brick...

    Thanks for the heads-up...

That is a very good idea. Resin isn't cheap, and I'm not happy that I printed a brick of it.

I may roll back for other reasons. The 1.9 series was just cleaner, IMHO; the 2.0 interface just doesn't run as smoothly on my dinky little tablet. Would then have to accept I can't put supports just anywhere...

I got my Elegoo Saturn 2 8k setup after work. I need to level it yet. I don't think I'll have time before Saturday though to try it out.

I just installed CHITUBOX 2.0. Kept the previous version back as I was afraid my old prints would rely solely on the previous version, which worked great for me. Now I see you guys having issues!!! :(:(:(

Yeah my Anycubic Photon didn't like Chitubox 2.0 BASIC.

I still haven't found time to use my new Saturn 2. I spent something like five days (38 hours by my guess) upgrading my Prusi i3 to an i3.9. I finished that up at Midnight this morning and it's not working right. Hopefully after work I can get that resolved. It's failing the XY test and failing to clean the nozzle before printing. All my cabling is correct though, and it powers up without complaint.

Perhaps I'll look into firmware being the issue?

My ELEGOO works incredibly well with the standard/previous version of CHITUBOX. I’m doing Z-scale, and the results are spectacular. But there were nuances with the basic version that I struggled with. I had high hopes for 2.0 but we’ll see how that pans out.

I wasn't impressed by the print issues it caused me. I still have an older version installed, don't recall which one though.

I really want to use my new resin printer, but I'm having trouble finding time to do so.
