I got it yesterday. I really enjoyed it and there were many things I found useful. So far, they are batting .666.
Whats wrong there Ken? looks like you might have a question! I have been very happy with the first two DVD's in the series, especialy the layouts, they are great choices. So far I like the DVD's better than the Magazine this year!
About five months ago, a lot of us received a DVD from MRR in the mail. It was unsolicited but with a request that if you liked it, you could send in $9.95 or somesuch amount and they would continue to send subsequent DVD's to you. You could return or cancel or whatever. I liked the first and paid for it. I did not care for the second one and returned it. The third held my attention and I picked up a few ideas.
I have so far enjoyed the first two, so I hope the rest of them are as good, but then again I like almost anything that has to do with trains and the "coin" was really cool.
Huh, I guess Mississippi is not in their market area....even though I've been a loyal(?) subscriber since 1947.
I'm a regular subscriber... and I haven't seen DVD #1 yet. I think a friend of mine did get it though... maybe he'll let me borrow it. Apparently they haven't widened the distribution to their other magazine subscribers.
I received the third DVD a couple weeks ago, and watched most of it. I found this one to be quite satisfactory. Definately a keeper. I've read, on other boards, complaints that the DVDs aren't presenting new information, but simply reshowing video stories that have appeared on other shows. In my case, I haven't had the opportunity to watch Tracks Ahead or other model railroad and hobby-oriented shows, so all the video on these DVDs are new to me. That's why I've been interested in them. Pat
Hytec- I am reasonably sure Mississippi is in the market area. However, since you have been in the hobby for almost 60 years, they may feel you know everything there is to know. I am certain you know a heck of a lot more than I do.
This is interesting reading. I received the first DVD. Paid for it and requested to receive more. I though they had not continued the series since i've not received any more since the first one? Maybe I should call them and ask what is up, you think? Or maybe this makes me mad and I should just forget it. Maybe cancel my mag subscription, too? Doc
I recieved the first one as well and paid the $10. Then I get the 2nd one and it says if you want to keep it send $24.95, (includes tax), I'm like, why the jump in price? Turns out in the fine print on the first one it mentions that all future DVD's will be $24.95 after tax. I thought the first one was worth $10 but, I don't think the second one's worth $24.95. 2slim
I contacted Kalmbach Publishing Company about not sending the DVD's after the first one. I was told that "yes, we received your payment but somehow we marked that you did not wish to reeive any more." To which I replied, well I do so send me the second and third DVD. I was informed that "we will send the second one and after we receive payment for it, we'll send the third." I asked why, since it was their screw-up they would not send both DVD's. Appearently even when you are a subscriber to their publications, buy special issues, and have for twenty+ years you cannot be trusted to pay for items regardless of your long association. To add insult to injury, the e-mail I received informing me to call the product department also contained an invitation to pre-order the forthcoming "Locomotives" special issue. I actually gave that serious consideration. That is until I looked at ordering and discovered Kalmbach Publishing Company charges $4.95 to mail a magazine. I can only figure this special issue must be 300 pages and weigh several pounds. I think i'll wait, buy one locally and pay a few pennies sales tax should I decide "Locomotives" is worth buying. Not many days a person can be insulted and ripped off at the same time. Finally, I just discover thanks to a post that the DVD is now @24.95. Gee, I wonder if the shipping will be less than $12.95?
