I have decided to put the freightcar detailing on hold for a while and get some more of my locos done, so I dug round and dragged these happy 4 out, a GP7 by Atlas Classic, and a GP18, GP20 and GP30 by Proto 2000.

they will all become Burlington Northern
    GP7 #1548 (ex GN #648)
    GP18 #1993 (ex NP #379)
    GP20 #2038 (ex CB&Q #902)
    GP30 #2231 (ex CB&Q #954)

Looks like s fun time ahead, Matt. All BN units, eh? Look forward to seeing the end results. :)

(Got a few on the bench at the moment myself, including a pair of ex-CB&Q GP40's and ex-Frisco GP35TT.)

I got BN GP50 #3156 in the paint shop right now myself (undecorated Athearn GP50).. I'm waiting for the Microscale decal set to arrive sometime next week.

I'm so glad I didn't have to strip paint.. :D

Can't wait to see your finished Geeps, Stickymonk!

I looking forward to the end results although I wouldn't mind seeing the detailing process.

I just picked up a GP30 by OMI and I'm going to be adding some weathering details to it on the weekend. It has a custom paint job
(by previous owner) that wasn't done so well but I can live with it.

Hmmm......painting over an old MKT paint scheme.......just ain't right

Just jerkin' yer chain, Matt- it oughta look good as a BN GP7. is it gonna be an ex-CB&Q prototype, perchance?

Which reminds me.....I've got two Athearn GP38-2 shells and an Atlas GP7 awaiting details and repainting in O/W colors to join my Frisco fleet. And, the MP GP35M shell needs decals.....</p>
Counting these 4 diesels, how many BN locos will you have altogether?

Did you ever get those GP39's finished that you started when you was over here??

It is going to be an ex GN loco, long hood forward, got a problem with the GP7 though, I need a winter hatch on it which I dont have...... but its something I can add easy after painting so it shouldnt hold me up.

I dont have that many locos now, I have sold a lot of them recently, all the large ones I had have gone apart from an Athearn F45 and SD40-2 and an Atlas U33C (which needs the paint and decals adding, then its off to ebay as well!)

I think I am down to 30 now, but that number may get even smaller as time goes by.

30, eh? And here I am trying to get up to 30 Frisco engines, including the Russian.......sigh.......
IIRC, the winterization hatch is a Details Assoc. part.
Back in the day, I modeled a BN GP7 from an Athearn model, using a former Q engine as the basis for prototype. Had to remove the DBs, putty in the holes, but left the hatch on. Except for the fact the shell was wide, it looked OK. Turned around & did the same to an Atlas hi-nose SD24.

i still have an old Atlas SD24, I am debating if I should just sell it and buy one of the new ones (they do look damn good!), or if I should spend a lot of time and effort to detail it up........ I think by the time I get all the details I need like the SV handrails ect it may be cheaper to get a new one, but even then it will need to be redailed in part to match a prototype loco....... Oooo to much thinking...... brain hurting....... best if I lay down now.

and have a nice cup of tea, luv! :D

The GP39's haven't been located, mate. I do have a small box, one of those nice Really Useful Products 1lt storage boxes, with Dremel bits floating around and I think they are in there (a -30 and -35 based unit). Having fun with the GP35TT job, though. :)

Which size winterisation hatch is it? Proto tend to give you them in their parts bags and i'm pretty sure I have some 'large' ones for 48" fans around somewhere.

Any winter hatch for an early geep should be ok, the fans are 36" on this loco, for some reason I didnt get on with the GP30, but I think it would have been the wrong type.

When I did my '24, I just filled in the openings on the fuel tank, added grab irons, and stayed with the Roco handrails. You may be better off just getting the SV handrails, adding the DA and DW parts, and being done with it. IMO, the Roco drive is pretty decent, and I have three Atlas/Roco GP38s and a GP40 from back in the day.

I don't recall them with the 30 either, but I know i've had ones from GP7/9, GP38-2, SD60 and SD45 - don't think I have any of the small ones in my bits box though, but will have a look tonight. I think the one I had i've used on my Atlas ex GN geep! :D

If you know anyone who buys lots of proto GP7/GP9 there should be one in their parts bags.
