It was at 4 years ago today that at 2:00 PM CST that the Chicago & Fort Worth Branch (Santa Fe) officially merged with the Alworth & Galena (BN controlled). "It was an historic event" said Joe Carson. "We had a BN GP9 parked on one end of the C&FW nose to nose with a Santa Fe GP7." The first locomotive painted was former Midland #2 then A&G#23, to H1 paint and given the number #1685. The New C&FW has adopted the current H1 paint of it's owner the BNSF. There has been some talk of keeping one C&FW locomotive in it's present BNSF road number, but recieve C&FW markings and possiably a red and gray paint scheme like the old CB&Q. Just kidding guys! Today is a celebration of a merger between two fellow rail fans, me and my wife. We modeled the above prior to us getting hitched. Makes for a good story though As you know my wife modeled BN, and myself SF. We only did what was natural!
Congrats Jim. Hope you and your wife have a great anniversary today and many many more in the years to come. Have my own merger coming up on August 17th.
