Hi Does anyone in Z do basic 40' gondolas, hopefully with plain rather than the pressed 'dreadnought' ends ? Cheers Ben
Hey, welcome Ben!! The only ones I know of are the Micro-Trains version. It's available in a few roadnames.
And they are long out of production. I spoke a few months ago with Joe at MTL. They have no plans to re-release them. Seems the mold for the chassis is either very worn out or broken. You can find them on eBay for about $25 each. John Bartolotto
Plus they are a 8 panel gondola, just like Atlas did in N scale. There are very few prototypes for it. On the Atlas forum a while back we could only find one prototype photo for this type a gondola, C&EI. Still I do have one in Z scale: http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/data/772/Zlayout45.jpg
Chris, Is that a photo of your layout? If so I really like the paint job you did on the Nansen Street Models 2 Story House. What colors did you use? John Bartolotto
John, Thanks. I still have to add glass and the chimney. I'm pretty sure that color was "Rail Brown", the trim is white.
Christ and Hemi, when are we going get updated pictures of your layout. I dont think we have seen the finish product yet. Its like watching a mini series. I dont want to miss the next episode.
Oh the layout is sitting right next to me as I type. The summer is here and I spend more time outside latey so the layout work slows down.
Thanks for the advice. The one I want has 11 panels including doors - it's a Victorian Australian example . . . Yes, it is kind of weird that they'd do an eight panel gondola and that it has so few US prototypes. Lots of the Atlas ones have been used by Aussie N scalers as we had a lot of eight panel types ! Cheers Ben
Yikes, mine has been in a state of noting lately.. Thanks to moving to a house, and setting it all up, I have little time to deal with it!
