What ever became of those 53' all-purpose spine cars from Deluxe and GHQ in that "joint venture" announcement?

I started patternmaking for these cars , and was well into this when George Johnsen called me to say they and GHQ were producing them, and maybe it would be best not to go head-to-head on any particular model. By this I took it to mean theirs were nearly ready. So even though I was fairly advanced with the masters, I put them to one side and went on to other things.

However, I am constantly being asked to produce these cars anyway, so the patterns are now nearly ready, and I will be doing them very shortly. I just have to organise the etches for the end platforms.

I was out with my son watching trains on the BNSF transcon a couple of weeks ago and saw tons of intermodal traffic. One car I noticed was a spine car with two hitches that carried two 28' trailers. What is this car and Alan, do you plan to produce these also. It would be great to see your pups on some of these.

Bryan, these cars are three unit "triple 57/twin 28" spines, which means they can carry up to three 57ft trailers and up to six 28ft pups.

These cars are in my "things to do" file ;) I eventually hope to produce all types of spine cars.

All I can say is YES!!!

The Deluxe ones are going to be ready to run and probablly cost a fortune. I myself get a kick out of assembling Alan's kits. The money that I save gives me longer trains. Bring on the 53'ers.
