The following are two messages posted on the Z_Intermodal Yahoo Group!

According to AZL's Official Website, the 53' wellcar is ready for release, but
is waiting on the containers to be completed. The containers are nearing
completion. The release timeline on the website shows 4th quarter 2009.

    http://www.americanzline.com/html/status.html

This is August, nearing September. We are in the middle of the 3rd quarter
right now fastly approaching the 4th quarter. I can hardly wait to see what
these beauties look like all painted and decorated up!! Gonna be a Great day in
Z scale when they are released!!

Containers, according to the website and past messages are 45' and 53'. For
those who have just raised an eye brow at the mention of the 45'er, I am with
you. But, I can see where this too is a needed container. From what I believe,
the 45'er is the largest container that is shipped on the sea. The 48'and 53'
are only used here in the USA.

I hope to see a 48' container, with the same quality and construction, soon.
This is as much a needed accessory as any other Intermodal equipment. Lets see
where this new 53' release takes us. I have been looking forward to it for
quite some time now. Few more weeks and it will be here, God Willing and the US
    Customs ferrying it thru quickly!

I have placed the latest photo of the 53' wellcar that is on the AZL site on the Home Page. Price has not been discussed yet but I hope they are comparible if not cheaper in price than are the MTL 48' Husky's!!! Hey, I can Dream too!!!

    Hobo Tim :)

p.s. Please post your excited comments!!!

    Tim,
standard ocean shipping container are only 20' and 40', all others do only one journey: from the factory in China and Korea to the destination. 48' & 53' are used in for domestic transport in Australia too. It'a not all about US ;)

    Tim,

In addition to the 53' and 48' we will also be producing a 40' container.

If anyone has requests for specific livery on any of the containers, please post a message here - soon - I'm due to deliver the final art files in a few days.

    Best,
    -Rob(A)

Rob A - Mitsui-OSK Allegator, China lines has a Panda, One of the reffers- can't remember the Company, has a Penguin. K Line is bright but sort of mundane. Make some pretty containers.

    Confusing Wordage!!

    Rob,

I have to ask this question of you.

The AZL website shows two containers being produced. A 45' and a 53'. You mention in the quoted post above that they are making a 48' and a 53'.

Please, can you shed some light on this for me. Their is a very big difference in the two, 45' and 48' containers. 48' are more widely used than the 45'ers. Maersk still ships across the oceans with their 45'ers placed in special bays used to hold the longer than 40'ers. Not sure who else uses 45'ers today, but a decade ago they were more widely used.

Please Rob, what size 4X'er is AZL really making?

Your reply is so very welcomed!!!

    Thanks!

    Hobo Tim

John- those ARE pretty-- but not standard issiue....On one of my ships ( Haze Gray) we had about 120 20'ers, each configured INSIDE as machine shops, etc, to support rotary wing aircraft. Each container was Navy gray and were identified by numerals only.
Many containers today have been turned into construction site offices, and in England I saw them converted into living spaces- homes... sort of like trailers. We also had two on the dock to stow our shoreside gear- forklifts and such. So any spare containers can also be used as trackside "buildings". Fred

I hope AZL is making a DIFFERENT 53 footer. MCZ makes an excellent Hi cube corregated 53's in several different logos. Check out Z Monster.
John -- even CSX- or whatever..

I'm with Fred, Mitsui-OSK and China Lines.

And with the discussion of other uses for containers, isn't FR shop made out of containers?

Fred, Tim is waiting for the etcher to approve his design. Tim expect the railings to be ready in Dec. I know Tim is little late on this project, but I am sure he will come through.
