The Atlas "mascot" with the jumping hat and beaming face actually had a name. He was on their adds and alot of their packaging. I knew his name a million years ago, but Damn sure can't remember it now !!!
BoxcabE50 and All, The First two Advertsin my post here are from 1974 and 1975! The adverts No.4 and No.5 are from 1993 No.6 is from 1994. The BACHMANN advert is from 1975 or 1976 though I am not sure of that. Tom
Loving those Rapido catalog covers Russell. I have a number of those, many beaten, folded and dog-eared from a thousand readings when I was young. Atlas was easy to find in the '60s and '70s, but not so Rapido which is the brand I got started with. It was always a big thrill to ride the train to Chicago and find Rapido at the downtown hobby shops and department stores.
Some of my first engines; the Atlas Mikado, undec, The Atlas Pacific, ATSF with the 4 passenger cars, Still have both, also remember the MRC line, had the 2-8-8-2 and the RSD 15. Thanks for the blast from the past.
