It has come to my attention that Trainworx may produce an etched laminate kit for the riveted, 01400-01469 series cabeese in addition to the already released welded, 01470-01490 cabeese. Pat at Trainworx has said that they must sell the remaining kits for the laminated sided cabeese before sending the riveted ones to the etcher.
This is exciting news, as these kits are OUTSTANDING!!

They have many new projects under consideration as well, such as: FMC double door waffle box sides (Wood Packers)
Brass Mars Lights (the Sunrise Ent. ones are about twice too big)
GP40-2 etched detail parts (including radiator screens, and drop steps, these are never released as a detail item...yet, as well)

Please show your support for Trainworx and let them know if you support the possible upcoming releases. Their site is posted as this link:
    http://www.wic.net/trainworx/riogrande.htm

If Trainworx sells down their inventory on the laminated sided cabeese, we can see the riveted ones much sooner, I just bought ten kits myself.
    Thanks Guys!!,
    Chuck
PS- I am not affiliated in any way with Trainworx, just want to see these great ideas come to fruition.

Totally agree with you DRGW4EVR,I will be placing a big order with Pat after christmas for cabeese & detail parts.
From what I under stand he has about 140 caboose kits to sell before he starts the rivited ones.I thinks it's great what Pats trying to do for us DRGW modelers & we should all do what we can to support him!

Is the only way to buy these brass sides directly though Trainworx?

Are there any e-tailers selling these?

    Thanx Steve,

I checked their site and only found the quad hoppers listed.

Perhaps the caboose upgrade kits are not being released to the e-tailers in order to keep the price down to the wholesale level???

    Joe,
While at the train show in Denver this weekend, I saw Wig Wag had some kits, albeit probably not listed on the web site. I'd give George a buzz. Pat at Trainworx is really quick with shipment too. Good Luck!!!

    Yes we have them.
What I don't have is time to build webpages.
Good staff is hard to come by.
Had to let one person go last week just before packing for the Denver show.

First post and may be wrong place. I did a search and found no discussion of building the Trainwork DRGW caboose. Wonderful kit but a few observations. I have experience with 1/700 scale ships so small photo etch is nothing new. The instructions included are minimal. I suggest glueing the ends first and then lining the sides up with the ends. Instructions say to do the sides first but did not work well for me. Seam was better ends first. Also pre drill all the 80 size holes while the brass is on the fret. Will be much easier. There is no note but the cupola will need a new roof. I could find no pictures of the main roof. Are all those rivets supposed to be there or removed? I did not notice until almost too late that the doors need to be installed from the inside. Do this before the ends are mounted to the Atlas body. The grab irons are great but so thin you only get one or two chances to bend correct before metal fatigue separates the parts. Bending from wire might work better for some irons. Having said all this I love the kit. It is not a shake together in one evening and more than a few will make you crazy. Great fun though and I am glad my two contributed to the sucess of thia kit and look forward to future kits. Waffle side box car great idea.

If you're a Rio Grande modeler that wants prototype specific cabooses I'd get these while they're available. I just ordered a couple yesterday directly from Pat at Trainworx, a quick and painless experience. I received an email time stamped 5am this morning that they'll ship today. The 01400 - 01469 rivet sided series he plans on producing, if the remainder of these sell, will feature the multiple window options that these cabooses had throughout their lives, according to a post by Pat on the N Scale D&RGW yahoo group.

I just received an email from Pat at Trainworx regarding new product ventures and he mentioned he still had around 75 sets of these left. I have to beg and plead with everyone to buy a set of many sets, Pat has said earlier that once these caboose kits are sold off, we may see the rivet sided caboose kits. This won't happen until they are sold off though. His website is below, just page down towards the bottom:
    http://www.wic.net/~trainworx/riogrande.htm

Some fine examples of finished models are found there as well. Also there is a building tutorial at this link:
