You'll shoot your eye out kid!

BTW, though off topic, I wrote about the man behind "A Christmas Story"-- I know some of you out there are Jean Shepherd fans...

I already have a folder called "Christmas story house" with quite some views of it.
It is the time I don't have unfortunately. But thanks for remembering it to me.

I grew up in NYC ... in early times without a TV. I listened to late night radio (WOR) using headphones so as not to bother my folks. Shep told this story many times ... but I did not connect it with the house. Thanks for the link!

One thing I love about this time year is all of the photos of real Christmas Trains that pop up. Today, there were a number of photos of CP's Christmas train. What stuck me is that we have the cars! The first four cars are the CP high-cubes that AZL offers. We just need festive graphics. But this would be a fun train to model. Here are a couple of images of the train:

The Christmas house is located in Cleveland Ohio, about 25 miles from me. It's fun to wander through the place which is open most of the time. When you press the guides you find only a very few views in the movie are actually taken at or around the house. The other 99% was shot on a sound stage in Canada. The interest in the house really shot up a few years ago, when an airline pilot and his wife bought the house and fixed it up to its original condition. Leg lamps, of course, are his number one seller.

The leg-lamp would be a great item for any hobby room!

Yes, there is of course a relatively complete guide to where the scenes were shot. The exteriors for the school, including the "triple dog dare!" were done in St. Catherines, Ontario, not far from Niagara Falls. I believe that somewhere on the 'net there is a video of a couple trying to visit all of the sites.

I have the books which have the stories on which the films were based. [Mine are autographed, the result of a (mis)adventure not unlike one of Shep's own.] There were some liberties taken... for example, in the book the Bumpus Hounds ruin the Easter Ham. But it all works well. Shep himself is in the film in addition to being the narrator, he is the man in Higbee's who tells Ralphie and Randy where the end of the Santa line is.
