Finished up the Fire Prevention Instruction Car based on GNs 1st car X1820 not the often photographed X1828. And then I turned my attentions to an excess of Obs cars in my fleet coming up with this. A double ender. It started life as the back car and ended up bashed into this.
Also while at my massive passenger car decaling and painting projects I decided to a few modifications to some. The first was fairly easy in it only involved changing the number of windows in the doors of the baggage cars. GN and SP&S both had some heavyweight baggage cars that had this door arrangement and otherwise the Rivarrossi cars are close. Used .010 styrene to replace the window frames in the doors. Thus I now have some variation in some of my baggage cars. Next I addressed an excess of Obs cars by converting some to coach. For some reason there are a lot of Model Power Heavyweight Obs cars floating around. Having done all the business cars I intend to I had a surplus so I trimmed the obs platform off one and the regular end plus doors off another. Spliced the new end with diaphragm and side doors onto the former platform end and presto, a coach. I did have to carve the correct shape into the former obs, roof platform end, so that it now fits the new arched top sill line. Since the glazing in the former obs roof does not cover these new windows I have to add some additional glazing to finish out. The remainder of the obs body will go into the scrap box for now. Possibly with some left over Bmann 65 footer car parts I just might be able to come up with a 65 foot obs later.
