The UP web site said they stopped near MILFORD, UT at 12:33 AM MDT. Says they are delayed leaving this morning.
They are on the move having passed Milford, as of the last post I submitted here. You can see more by checking the UP link I provided.
I'm a patient man or would like to think so BUT! Something critical and something supportive. I just checked in with the Train website and they are showing non-subscribers nothing. Pretty much a tease to the rest of us and of course always the pitch for Trains Wig Wag. On the other hand it is the Trains subscribers that are paying for this trip and should be the privileged ones to ride along with the Train Guys as they live stream the amateurish video, back to the supporters of Trains. As a non-subscriber it doesn't make much sense to follow the action and watch what ever they allow to sneak out. I wish the rest of you loads of fun, that is if and when you can get in to enjoy the action. For now you can depend on Union Pacific (minus the not so hidden agenda) to allow you to track the train move.... see link: http://www.up.com/aboutup/special_trains/steam/trace.cfm That said, I will be signing off here I said grumbling into my beard. Frustrate, frustrate, frustrate!
Signing back on here. In case you haven't noticed the Big Boy is almost home in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Due there at 1:00 p.m. MDT. UP has been kind enough to allow us to follow along with their tracking device. Doing a much better job then the Trains Website. To bad they didn't have their own ride along film crew working the Hospital train. The last day or so Dave a former UP PR person joined Jim G. and has been riding along. I thought that would translate into better camera work and he'd provide some historical information. This may have happened on the day subscribers to Trains followed along. Not being a current subscriber, I got cut out. It's been interesting to watch as a non-subscriber but what burns me is I subscribed to Trains faithfully for years and now that I'm not...(able to afford it)...well...I think you get my point. The camera work has been poor at best many of the shots taken on the shadow or silhouetted side of the locomotive. Measuring the overall performance on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 the best...I'd give it a 4 1/2. Noting on the Train website comments by viewers as being negative. I'd say I wasn't the only unhappy camper tuning in. Sigh! More content unavailable responses then actual streaming. Oh well. Had I of ridden along I'd of bailed ship somewhere in Cajon Pass, used my own vehicle and favorite camera locations to make my own video. Of course that isn't likely to happen (at my age). Afterthought, or perhaps I could volunteer to be the director or better yet a camera man. They needed a qualified camera man along. Oh well...it is what it is! It was fun and a shout out of thanks to the guys and gals at Trains for sharing in said... fun? I think the chase was getting old right about Rawlins, Wyoming. You'd of had to been there riding in the back seat of the virtual ride along. True! What's next! You Tube and hopefully some well done video's from the state of Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. Question is will I live long enough to see the Big Boy under it's own steam? The Big Boy, it should be on the outskirts of Cheyenne, WY., as I write. Oh and thanks for tuning in here and sharing your thoughts and videos. Hello anyone here? Signing off once again unless you want to visit and compare notes. Grin!
There are finally several videos of the move on YouTube. I'm surprised it took a while, and there aren't more!
Stopped at Cheyenne, Wyoming...HOME! Yep, Ken several video's of the Big Boy leaving Southern California, are available on You Tube. Prompting the question where are all those video's from Nevada, Utah and Wyoming? Someone other then Jim G. must of gotten footage. Look's like it's time to get back to work on my layout and recreate some railroad memories. If for no one else other then myself.
Ditto Ken, Ditto. I'm going to check with Cheyenne news media to see if it was as important for them to cover it's arrival, as it was for some of us to follow it's progress home.
Ok, I tried the local news stations in Cheyenne. If they covered the arrival of the Big Boy, they didn't do it live. Film at 11:00 p.m. MDT. Once again, it is what it is. Sigh! But WAIT! For those who like me, wasn't able to follow it elsewhere. Here we go. Sorry, it would not imbed. Also, if this doesn't get you to the clip intended a quick search will find the Big Boy's arrival home. Did you know she has a sister on display in Cheyenne, WY...true! On my bucket list: Yep, my goal is to survive long enough, to see the Big Boy steamed up and running.
Home! I know you are tired of hearing from me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Over on another thread I posted a resource you might find interesting: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine...-4014-arrives-in-Cheyenne&p=980610#post980610 This is another discussion celebrating the arrival of #4014 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Arriving Home! You might want to bump the quality up to 480. I found a video posted by the UP website along with others. Thought you might find them interesting. More to come as other's get their video's downloaded. Retraction: It wasn't Ken but Russell I owed the "Ditto" to. Oop's Grin!
I've moved my part of this discussion over to: http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?157976-She-s-Home!-4014-arrives-in-Cheyenne She's Home in Cheyenne Wyoming. As far as my comment's regarding Trains Wig Wag and the coverage of the Big Boy Move. Let's just say I ain't happy with them and not likely to purchase anymore of their wig wags. It was fun for awhile to ride along but the video coverage was poor at best. So, I went looking for other video's and fine folk who shared their coverage of the event . You might like what I found....if not...it is what it is. See you over on the other thread.
