Rails, I've been away from our hobby quite a while due to personal stuff. If I remain in HO (may go back to N) , I am thinking of buying the new IHC Mikado. I read somewhere that they're EXCELLENT! Any of you have own one yet ? What's your take on it? Also, what happened to the "members list"(above) for the forum ? Did I miss that announcement ? Tanks, Mark
Mark in LA The member list got moved under "Community" that's where I found it. As to the IHC mike I havent seen one so check reviews in MR or MRN and see if they have done something on the locomotive. Stay with HO as you get older N gets smaller.
Don't know about the IHC Mikado but I have an IHC 2-10-2 and it runs very well and pulls like a beast!
Rails, thanx for responces. I remember that I saw the review in Model RRr Mag. for the Mike. I Believe they said it creeps at 1.5 scale MPH.,pulled allot, but as usual, detail was lacking..I've seemed to have observed this on all the IHCs I've seen in stores. I guess that keeps the prices low...Two more questions : Was IHC originally made by Rivarossi ? (Why do I think this ? If so, what happened , if anything ?) Finally: Are the flanges decent now ? They used to look too deep , like early N stuff was..
IHC steamers IHC makes nothing. Imports from Mehanotechnika (Serbia) or China. At one time they and/or predecessor AHC imported from Rivarossi. Some of current tooling originated with latter. If you want highly detailed, and uniquely detailed locos buy them from other more expensive sources. Flanges meet RP25-101 standards. Good-Luck, PJB
If you are looking for a mikado, broadway limited just released the blueline version a few months ago. In my opinion they did a pretty nice job on the details.
PJP & rickb, thanks again for more info..No I'm not especially looking for a Mike. But the IHC sounds good for price ($125.00 ish) and would be nice type for my road. Money short now. But if I do buy it, I'll report back..
If the engine you want runs great but is lacking in detail, add it yourself. There are several companies that manufacture detail parts. For steam, Cal-Scale comes to mind.
I've got a Mike from Trix, about 150 Euro at ebay. Here are pictures about coupler and weathering. Wolfgang
Wolfgang and the rest. Thanks again for the responces..I wanted to say I'm sorry for such a poor choice of words in the title of this thread.. I was trying to be humorous by saying 'coupler of ' instead of 'couple of '.I.E. I wasn't really asking about couplers..Mea culpa..
