... Middletown, OH is just south of Dayton and home of AK Steel (or at least what's left of it). I espied this last weekend. ... dunno if they were based at the AK Steel here or merely enroute to another plant... Still, not the kind of steel I'd steal unless I'd had a drink from my still... (I don't know why I added that last part).
Hmmm, I guess those are Good News/Bad News photos. Good News is that they're Recycling. Bad News is that they're recycling LOCOMOTIVES. :crying:
Well the good news is they're on flatcars and appear whole. If they were being scrapped, i don't think they'd need four truckers to haul em with... Although if they're headed to LTEX or NREX, who knows whats in store. If you've got a flatcar number, (swithcer number won't work, the waybill would't have the switch engine number on ut) I know a guy who has access to CSX's database. In addition to tracking his own feeight, he's looked up other oddballs
Morgan, the knowledge of this train's route and destination would be interesting. That might tell us that it's destination is a loco recycling facility we didn't know about before. Unfortunately in this instance the only car number that's clearly readable is lacking the leading digit and owner's name. If folks who photograph trains would learn to think like spies and show little details such as reporting marks, it would make life for nuts like me much easier.
Hmm whst are tje odds that coil car os a spacer and going with? Let e see of he can do some figging. Is thos an Eb or a Wb train?
why I outta!!! I'm actually gonna go back through the day's shoot and see if I can find some reporting marks... then I'll show ya... I can spy with the best of 'em!!!!
... ok, photos taken on or about the 21 April 2013 flatcars marked KRL 70936 KRL 70991 KRL 70904 KRL 70867 KRL 60953 ... as long as I have the original full resolution photos, I can "spy" with the best of them!!!!
Make that 3 Sharks (4 if you count the B unit) and 2 Train Masters (not counting the 1:1 at the museum here). And diesels have souls too. Nothing like hearing the comforting gurgle of an idling 251...
4 sharks? there are a pair of NYC/D&H RF16's stored in Michigan, where are the other 2? And the only Trainmaster left is a Canadian one in the museum...CP 8905 is the only H-24-66 preserved.
Hmmm... let me rewind that... I believe I was talking about my models... yes! I was! I wasn't sure there for a while... blasted senility... I'm intimately familiar with CP 8905 - I'm a member at that museum! Every time I go I give it a good whack with my fist. That's real metal.
Hey guys, so, servay says:
They are all going to RELCO Locomotives in Albia IA. SO, they are either off lease with AK and just going "home" to inventory, or they where purchased by RELCO and are head in a cores for a rebuild. Seiously doudt they would scrap them - if you where going to scrap, you would do that on sight at AK vs paying to load up and ship to Iowa.
Thanks for good information Morgan. I never heard of RELCO, so looked it up... http://www.relcolocomotives.com/main/home.html
