Then also dont forget about the other loner, the only CF-7 with dynamic brakes. I cant remember the number though, but I think it was the first one built.
Same one.. 2649, the first unit, was the only one with dynamic. I think the first ten or so units had the F7 windows and those were rebuilt by ATSF.
Yeah, the Atlas Ph1 with dynamic hood should work just fine for 2649. The question is whether I want to put the effort into building an "Edsel" of a cab design for the master, as it was thoroughly "unique". http://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr0404/sf2649.jpg Units immediately after it didn't have the dynamic but kept the windows: http://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr0404/sf2643.jpg Both those styles would be possible to do it I make the wierd cab. Those windows never survived off the ATSF. Remember most of the early CF7's came back through a second time to get frames reinforced, windows changed, and some got the cab roofs changed over to angled. 2649, according to the book, ended up getting scrapped by its buyer and parts donated back for the rebuilding of the Antracite Railway's Society CNJ F3, so it came full circle! Everything about the CF7 program was odd, starting with the number-backwards idea with the newest ones having the lowest, not the highest, number. This tendency for rebuilding, rebuilding again, and changing major details like cab and frame somewhat randomly when they did is why the model is designed modularly so that you'll be able to order/modify what you want locomotive and era specific.
Well according to Randy's site not available as yet but I'm still onboard for one Angled roof kit and have gp7 mechanism ready to go under this much anticipated kit.:thumbs_up:
Nope, the Topeka cab is a different beast. It's also thinner than the CF cab. I do think Rand mentioned working on it as well, but I think he'll be taking a break when the CF is done.. :tb-biggrin:
Contact Mark4Design, he has a GP7/9 Topeka Cab available. It just isn't on his site. I used one for CCT 44. Still a few things left to finish.
Here's another shot of the Topeka cab / nose unit. I did have to strip one as the paint job was below par so you will see some red (being the natural colour of the resin) and yellow being the colour it should be for Santa Fe Since jnevis posted his I imagine it's okay
I dropped Mark4design an email about the availability of some of his shells when I was working on my Chehalis Western GP 38-2 project, and his response was that he was having problems with the supplier of his products. So I dont know if he is producing products now or not.
Bump! Any word on this? I'm starting work on the first section of my LAJ layout. I feel the need for .... CF-7's!!
I've got my own issues with getting the etchings right, first tests were not good, drop back, punt, try again. Resin parts came out great. Not what I would have predicted!
Yeah, been there, done that.. Glad to know your doing it right! Thanks for the update! Of course, when you can predict everything and it happens, time to play the lotto!! :tb-biggrin:
"Any word on this? I'm starting work on the first section of my LAJ layout. I feel the need for .... CF-7's!!" CF7s, not ALCO S4s? LAJ never looked prettier than when they had the Zebra striped ALCOs hauling 100+ car cuts over the L.A. River heading for the Santa Fe yard... and visa versa. I'd like to see a CF7 do that!!! And the lighted Ramapo switch stand lights at night... that was better than a Navy F4,F14/FA18 taking off in after-burner!!!
