I have some microscale gold letter decals that almost disintigrate as soon as you try to slide them after wetting for a minute or two. Any suggestions on the cure for this problem? :tb-shocked:
Microscale MI-12, Micro-Liquid decal film. Brush a thin coat over the decals on their original paper; let dry; then cut and apply decal as usual. Problem solved. John C.
I have had that happen. I think it is because the decals are old. They dry out and become very brittle. It has only happeded to microscale decals I bought off ebay. Since, I only use microscale decals I buy from a reliable source, so that I am confident they are fairly fresh. I have tried using flo-quil decal set by brushing it on them in hopes it will soften the decal film some so it wouldn't be so brittle. It does help some, and I have had some good luck in keeping the decal from falling appart while the transfer took place, however, the decal still doesnt look good, and has a hard time adhearing once it is dry. It seems to flake off very easily. I want to try it again, but leaving the solution on longer maybe.
I bought brand new right from microscale and have had the same problem put them in water and poof gone.So from now on I put alittle of the dcal film on to make sure I dont waist so many decals. Allen....
The Micro-Liquid is designed to do this and does a good job. A thin coat of gloss or flat clear paint will work, too. (I prefer to use gloss as I gloss coat my model before applying the decals.) Let it dry and then use the decal normally. I do think they crack because they are old. I was told to keep them away from the "air" in zip-lock bags to try to slow the aging process.
These came from my LHS who ordered them for me from his supplier. I will try some decal bonder I have and let you know what happens. Same bat channel, same bat station.....
