Welcome to Trainboard Alan. Some of the biginning books I recommend are from Model Railroader. Most of the beginner books information can be used on any scale. Also, ask any questions you may have on this forum.
Hi Alan, Welcome to Trainboard. I cannot think of any one book, but Atlas used to have a book called "Nine N Scale Railroads you cab build" that was real good on the subject. We model Z of course, but the concepts are the same. What I would recommend is to get a years subscription to Model Railroader, as they always start a new layout build about this time of year, and they tell you of books related to the steps they are doing. Ztrack magazine covers whats available in Z and what people are doing in Z.
Hi Alan & welcome Have a look at this web site http://www.ztrains.com/ lots of z scale info and how too's, the MTL site http://www.micro-trains.com/ also has some basic track plans using there pre-ballast track, a great way to get started... Mike..
Hi Alan, We are building up a series of articles titled Z Scale Basics over at Ztrains.com: Ztrains: Z Scale Basics If you have specific questions or a topic you'd like to see covered, please drop us a line and we'll do our best to help with an article. A year's subscription to Model Railroader or Rail Model Craftsman is a good place to start. Kalmbach publishing (Trains, Model Railroader) produces a fine line of hobby books from the basic to more advanced. You will need Ztrak magazine to be more scale specific. We need Joe at MTL to produce a Z Scale Primer.
Ya! But watch out if you're in Canada, Carstens's been having real issues distributing to all over Canada since the beginning of the year, have still not received my August, Sept, & Oct issues. Ben
There is one book...GREENBERG'S MODEL RAILROADING WITH MARKLIN Z but, a) it is pricey and b) the author, Riley O'Connor, mentions on his website the book is in need of updating. and he updates pretty good on his website: http://www.guidetozscale.com/index.html so, read the website sniglets and forget looking for a book. This scale is advancing so fast that even publishers can't keep up!
