As I said earlier, NY Central had so many L class Mohawks I could post one for every message these days. This one is an L-4a built by Lima and at Wabash, IN, from the collection of Harold K. Vollrath.
You can't really tell from this image but this is locomotive #961. It is a T&NO F1 2-10-2 photographed in Houston, Texas at the Hardy Street shops in 1940.
The lagging looks awfully smooth and dent free so this engine was probably right out of the shop after a major rebuild. The Hardy Street shops were where T&NO did a lot of this. So, that could be the new paint. Also it looks like it has been raining so it could also be the wet look to add some sparkle.
Well then, for my 3021st post here is D&H ALCo S-2 #3021 which is listed as being taken on February 1, 1949 in S. Wilkes-Barre, PA. Don't know if there is an incline there at the time or if the photographer took it at an angle.
Here's a 1953 Alco MRS-1 being delivered to the Yreka Western RR in 2002. The working loco is a 1953 EMD SW-8.
