    These LEDs use magnet wire. If you have one of the miniature signals you've seen this type of wire, and it's way smaller than a hair, and indeed it's scale sized real room wiring. The resistor can either be in the room (the resistor is just about as small as the LED if you want, perhaps disguised as a switch box on the wall?). You can also power the whole thing with a mongo resistor down at the power supply.

    Thoughts for your refinement:

    The midget LEDs are surface-mount gizmos, IIRC, so you could (will?) do a fluorescent fixture over a work bench, for example. Put a couple on a bit of circuit board with that assembly wall-mounted over a work bench and wired with exposed conduit. You'll probably need a valence around the fixture, more for looks. The wires (or wires painted as conduit) run down below the floor where the proper leg is connected to a resistor.

    The fleabite LED could wired with stiff wire legs to make a work light on a stand. Again, they would run below the layout to a resistor and power.

    LEDs are more directional light than bulbs, so I wouldn't necessarily use them for room illumination. They would look great for photos, assuming they show up strong enough. I would guess that they would based on the larger sizes, but that should be tested in photographs.

    The idea is to provide a spotlight in a scene for photos, if you will, rather than providing building lighting.

    All different sizes, from 1/2" for gauge and brake piping on up to 3-4" piping for Superheaters, to 10-12" for Smokebox piping.

    Tony and Steamghost,
    These lights look like a real possibility, I'll have to experiment with them and see what comes up. Great ideas that you guys have given me,
    Thanks.

    JD,
    Great photos!! The smoke box shot is one I have been looking for. I have been wanting to add more detail to my Back Shop and this is one of the items that I really wanted to do.
    [IMG]
    The loco in the above photo needs the detail shown in your photo.

    John,

    as for wiring a small LED, you could use conductive paint instead of wire.

    I wanted to get a little more done on the interior, oil stains and more junk but I recieved my new Canon XT today and just had to try it out. So here are a few shots of the interior as of today.

    I have been working on the roofing and the flue racks so I will have a little more in a while.

    Everytime I stop back into this topic all I can seem to say is WOW! as I see these fantastic images of this amazing work.

    I was working on my roofing too, but that was 1:1 where it was leaking a little around the chimney. [IMG]

    This is amazing! It just goes on and on. Like Stourbridge Lion, just fantastic!!! [IMG]

    Thanks Darren and Flash,

    I just hope I'm not dragging this on too long, people are going to get tired of seeing this topic coming up.

    I do have a few more additions;

    [IMG]
    These brass squares come in different sizes and are very useful. I have used it to make the legs for the table below;
    [IMG]
    Just bend the two ends down for the legs and add a thin piece of plastic on top, paint and you have a table. There are more of these around the building.

    The other item I made with it is a flue pipe rack;
    [IMG]
    Just bend the four sides around, super glue, and cut out the vertical posts on the sides, then paint. I added two mid sections for support.
    Add plastic rod of different sizes glued together and painted. The rack was a two evening job.

    Things like the rack are very simple when you think of them. You just have the knack of finding the stuff to utilise for these details. I am still in awe at the whole project. [IMG]

    John...

    Never fear about dragging this topic out too long... I (and I suspect a great many others) really look forward to the latest on the project. Its inspiring as well as informative. :D

    I did finish all the roofing and am now working on the steam line that will run across the back of the RH;
    [IMG]
    The frame is .060" Plastic I beam with .030"X.030" bracing and the steam line is a combination of some parts I took from a Green Max kit for the main pipe and then some sprues to feed of of that with a plastic rod running down to the floor.

    [IMG]
    I had some small HO valves that I bought years ago and can't remember the name of them. They fit on to the bottom of the pipes.

    Once the rest of the pipe is done I will work on the steam hammer(s), still don't know if it will be one or two of them. Then the smoke jacks, a little more detail, and the final dulling of anything that is too shiny and the interior should be done.

    Great job! I took my turntable out of my plans because I only have 24 inch wide benchwork, and 19 1/2 diameter. I still have hope that I can find a space big enough for three stalls and the Atlas roundhouse, I have the atlas turntable, I am not sure if I want to keep it or get the Walthers? The Atlas turntable appears to demand more space and you need to use all of the stall spaces to avoid the toy appearance of the product. Looking forward to seeing future pics from your new project, [IMG]

    Mr. Wrinkles,
    You might want to try something like a two stall engine house, rectangular in shape, this would not take as much room and still give you a place to store a couple locos.

    Watash was kind enough to give me a lot of information which really helped in putting in the steam hammers.
    First I needed more cranes around the hammers to handle the pieces at would be worked on.
    I wanted some different crane than what I had already put in and ones that would reach over the top of the hammers.
    [IMG]
    This one can go over the top of the hammer. I made two of these.

    [IMG]
    This is a different type just for a little variety.

    [IMG]
    A overall view of the two hammers and four cranes.

    The hammers are Detail Associates and are setting on wood that would be coming up from a pit in the floor.
    [IMG]
    The crane that goes over the top of the hammer is right in front of the photo.

    The other crane;
    [IMG]

    [IMG]
    The two orange exhaust pipes are cut off but will continue through the roof.
    The red door in the center will go to the forge which will be outside of the RH because of the heat. That 's what I was told by Watash, as mentioned before his expertise on this really helped.

    I took a break from this project, had the NMRA national coming up and a few other things but thought it was time to add a few more items.

    I put in the steam hammers but that means there should be a forge to heat the metal so I have started on that. Here are a few pictures of the forge so far.

    [IMG]
    I used a old AHM warehouse kit that I cut down to the size that would fit behind the roundhouse.

    [IMG]
    There are two forges inside. More detail to be added later.

    [IMG]
    Still have to make a roof.

    One item that held me up was trying to figure out what to do for the bellows that would be next to the forges.
    This is what I came up with.

    [IMG]

    [IMG]
    I did not take any photos of these as I made them because I was just experimenting with different ideas and before I realized it I had built three of them.
