We were in Dresden for only part of one very rainy day. I was able to get just a small number of pictures of this interesting railroad, which is located in a park next to the Dresden Zoo. [ 07. December 2004, 12:07: Message edited by: Peirce ]
Is something going on at RailImages? At 16:06 today I see the red "X" too. Earlier in the day everything looked good.
Peirce, Check your URL: Not Found The requested URL /albums/Dresden-Park-Railroad/aaa.jpg was not found on this server. Charlie
I have it working again. When I post pictures, whether they are from, from RailImages or my main photo site, Fotki, I always use the copy/paste method, and check the links with the "Preview Post" button. They checked out ok. What seems to happen is that I edited the captions and descriptions in RI after I had started this thread. That change seems to have caused a change in the URL. I wonder if this is a hidden "bug." All seems well now. So I can go on to the next thread I planned to post, with pix of trams in Dresden. Thanks for the pointer, Charlie.
We did take a ride. I am not sure the amount of trackage it has, but it meanders through the park and has three or four station stops. One of which is just outside the zoo. If we had more time, we sould have gotten off there and visited the zoo.
Peirce- Is there more to this than appears? By that, I am wondering if this is sort of a lead-in to educating youngsters for a career in railroading? Boxcab E50 [ 10. January 2005, 18:26: Message edited by: BoxcabE50 ]
Sorry I can not answer that. I wish I could, because I would like to know more, too. Our visit to Dresedn was for only a part of one day, si I didn't have time for much research. I haven't had much luck, so far, searching the web for more info either. Maybe some of our members based in Europe could add more info for us.
I hope that someone will have an answer. My curiousity has been aroused. This railroad seems to much for simply entertainment value. Boxcab E50
A bit of the history is here: http://www.virtual-dresden.de/english/content/e_parkeisen.html The webcam feature didn't work for me at the time. Interesting and surprisingly long history behind it all! And I *think* they have a website at: http://www.liliputbahn.de/ But it's all in German...
That looks like the one. It is too bad we can't get an English translation of that second site. It looks like it has a lot of information. I tried the Google translation feature and it did not work. I will play with some alternative methods and see if I can come up with anything.
Interesting sites. Hope Peirce can help find translations for the second one! I notice they use the word "pupils" in describing the youth involved. So I wonder if that refers to their age? Or are they actually being trained for something beyond this? Boxcab E50
