I'm pleased to announce that Jim Wiggin has coordinated with Railfan & Railroad Magazine and the Galesburg Railroad Days to bring TrainBoard a special 4 part photo challenge to take place over the next 4 weeks! :D

The first three challenges will operate as usual except that the first place winner will receive a copy of Great Railroad Photography Premiere Issue from Carstens!

The fourth challenge will be for "Best Photo from Galesburg!"
Galesburg RR Days starts on Thursday June 23rd and runs til Sunday June 26th.
This challenge will be limited to those who can make the Galesburg RR days, so if you're in the area mark your calenders! The winner of this challenge will also receive a copy of Great Railroad Photography Premiere Issue from Carstens!:)

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

For this week, we're starting off with the theme CB&Q.
Surviving locomotives, equipment, structures and even CB&Q inspired shortlines will be accepted.

Entry deadline is Sunday June 5th. One entry per member.
On June 6th, all entries will be voted on by TrainBoard members, as always, to determine the recipient of Great Railroad Photography Premiere Issue.

If you have any questions feel free to post and we'll get an answer as soon as possible. :)

Thanks Mark, that is right, Trainboard is please to announce this special series of Prototype Photo Challenge. Mark has explained the guide as to what we are looking for and the prize is something that any railfan will appreciate! The good ole' Q has been gone for a good 40 years, but you can still find examples of it in 2011. Here are some examples we are looking for:

    http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/data/836/10230008.JPG
Structures, stations, line side equipment and bridges, anything like this of CB&Q heritage.

    http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/data/921/DSC01187.JPG
Locomotives, waycars, freight cars and such that are on display at stations or museums. Hint, there are a bunch in Illinois.

    http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/data/1037/DSC_00205.JPG
Also, locomotives that wear a CB&Q inspired paint scheme like this GP7 found in rural Illinois. Sure looks like a CB&Q scheme to me. Another hint, the Bloomer line in Gibson City Illinois have sharp looking Geeps in Chinese red and gray.

So there you have it, like Mark said, these are new pictures so get out there and take pictures. Old pictures from 1970 don't count, sorry.
    Good Luck!

As I understand, it's the last of its type still standing.
Still in daily use, by BNSF crews.

Good lord guys nothing but flashbacks for me here today thanks. That bridge is on the old C&I,The steam is in Da'Burg, and now you have a shot of Longmonts Depot!!Now Keith if you follow the line towards Cheyenne a green house on teh west side of the tracks about 5 or so blocks away will be a guy with a pistol. Supposedly he shoots at the trains ( never happened to me though)Then teh YMCA.....Now THAT was a great thing to pass by on a sunny day like today!

Maybe back then it could have happened. I've
never heard of anything like that happening.
These days....Who knows. Anything possible I suppose.
YMCA building still around and still in use.
Bet the area does NOT look like it used to back the day!! :D

Yeah that was all in 2008 ;) The guy was older and I had heard the "true tales" lol. I just liked heading into RL Longmont and seeing that pool full of bikini clad women well needless to say that was the best 8 mph I have ever done ! I sometimes wish I would have stayed in Denver and just waited for my seniority to allw me to work out of there. But I found "the one" here in Chicagoland, so I am glad I came to the J.But I still miss the FRS.
