I posted about this a LONG time ago. Started thinking the other night about including the SP (SD&AE) into my modeling plans since I was planning on modeling San Diego. I found my good Ol' Walthers trainline GP15 and disassembled it for painting. Man, no wonder the thing started acting up, when I pulled the truck cover off, it looked like the inside of the oil pan for a car that hadn't had its oil changed in 5 years. Drivetrain is upstairs drying after scrubbing vigorously with an old toothbrush and some cleaning fluid. some of the stuff was so bad it was crusted to the plastic. I'm no SP expert so if anyone could point me in the right direction for what would possibly be installed on the unit during the 70's would be nice. (5 light package is a requirement for me!:tb-cool. I have new handrails coming for it as well. Ok, enough talk, heres some pictures of the first coat of primer. I was about to primer the whole shell when, La-de-da, The can ran out of paint. Oh well. I'll get another can next week along with some SP grey and Red.
That really bites. And whats even worse, is sometimes at the end of a can, it sputters a bit and lands neat little globs...... Ugh. Boxcab E50
Just do it up using pics of SD40T-2 tunnel motors. Use all the same details and light packages. Some do call the GP15-1 a baby tunnel motor anyhows.
Boxcab: Yup, been there, done that. Thankfully mine just stopped spraying paint and started hissing. John: That simplifys things a lot, thanks!
glad to know I am not the only one to think about this....anyone got a cheap Trainman GP15 laying arround?
I just struck gold with walthers, They have a brand new handrail set for me, and its all free. not a bad project so far.
