Playa Desnuda is that beach city that happens to be on the wrong side of the tracks. It really needs a dive bar, and I an going to help out the town. I am thinking about naming it Vardi’s, in honor of Chandler’s Phillip Marlowe. In Marlowe’s debut novel, The Big Sleep, he drank (a lot) at Vardi’s. Unless someone can give me a better name..besides, The Big Sleep is one of my favorite movies.
Love it! I'm building the same structure. Mine will be Pinky's, a gentleman's club. Scratchbuilts in progress by Rocket Jones posted May 7, 2018 at 2:43 PM
Of course there will be a couple of ladies of doubtful morals outside standing under the street light.
Vardi’s is getting closer to opening, just need to get some signage, and get a delivery from Gallifrey Supplies down by the station. I am now looking for a Brew 102 sign to put on the side…
And being that close to the tracks, a sign that's posted by the railroad, 'No on-duty Railroad employees!'
I'll have to see how it prints out... Brew 102 was that cheap working man's beer that tasted like crap but got you drunk beer. It was brewed until the 1970's in Los Angeles. Thank you
Gotta' love a bar like that. Could be anywhere, in any era !!! Mine would be in the Midwest with an "Old Style" sign out front !!!
Nice! Bars in Canada are a challenge due to arcane liquor laws, and I presume different from province to province. I had a great Dewar's poster with a kilted bagpiper that I wanted to use then remembered - probably no liquor signs allowed in the '50's. Also, need a "Ladies and Escorts" entrance. Lot's of research to do yet...
Finally added some signs to the local bar, and nothing says cheap beer like Brew 102….and nothing says Cold War like a Fallout Shelter sign….
