January 12, 2005 Day care, strip mall evacuated after train derailment WINNIPEG (CP) - Five CN Rail cars jumped the tracks in a residential area Wednesday, forcing a brief evacuation of a nearby strip mall that includes a day care CN Rail spokesman Jim Feeny said the cars were carrying sheets of steel and road salt, although one tanker was carrying propane. "That car is upright and is not leaking,'' Feeny said. Only one of the cars, one carrying road salt, actually rolled on its side. "We have no reason to believe the train was speeding. Our train crews know what the speeds are supposed to be and compliance is very rigorously enforced at CN.'' Maximum speed for trains through the residential area is about 40 kilometres an hour. credit - Canada.com Canadian Press complete story - http://tinyurl.com/5mq5f
