Does anyone know what color the stripe and lettering on the upper part of ACL stainless steel passenger cars was after the purple? I'm talking about the mid 60's before the SCL merger. Does anyone make the decal?
All the pictures I can find are too dark or far away to tell. From what I can figure out it looks like they shortened the stripe to just show the lettering, but I'm not sure as I can find very little info on this era. I'm trying to model the "Champion" circa 1966, in N scale. I've already done 3 Life-like E-6's in the black and yellow. All my Con-Cor passenger cars are the purple stripe. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to try contacting the ACL/SAL Historical Society at www.aclsal.org. They might have the information.

There were two things that happened after the long Royal Purple stripe was eliminated. First, it was shortened to just the letter board itself. The color remained purple and the lettering remainded aluminum. Later on the purple was eliminated completely and the lettering became black. That lasted from the late 50's up to the merger with the far superior SAL.

Back when I was a member of the BOD of the acl & SAL H.S. I worked with Microscale on several sets of custom decals for the society. One of the acl sets featured both of the above mentioned lettering. I don't know if they have any left in stock after all this time though.
