Saw these units yesterday on the overpass switching the Eas****e, OH. power plant. About drove off the freeway. Tracked them down today in Painesville. Notice the amber light beacon just behind the dynamic brake blister. My engineer friend at CSX tells me that they are experimenting with remote control switching at Collinwood yard. Could that light be for this? eNjoy!

That looks like the light I've seen in other photos of units so equipped.

The long hood end looks strange - is this the way the new paint scheme is supposed to look? It looks like they oversprayed the blue all around the edges.

Seems to be pretty quiet here these days...

</font>[/QUOTE]Here's what I just saw today on an e-mail list about the single lights mounted on the long hood:

"**Note about the 8202: has a small orange revolving beacon right behind the
dynamic brake blister on the engineers side. A decal under the engineers
window...." EcoTrans, K-9 APU Equipped". Anyone know what this is for?

Its an auxiliary power unit mounted in the long hood that automatically
starts and keeps the water warm in cold weather."

So when they re-paint these units they are also modernizing them too? Seems pretty fancy for a GP-40-2 although the winters here would call for something like that.

I don't know about that... I doubt anything has been done to modernize them :(
