I got round to adding the plywood contour board to the front of the new extention.

I built the retaining wall from Wills scenic sheets - same as the bridge abutments - and backed it with foam board again. The terracotta stuff is Das modelling clay.

That's a very nice addition to that space.

Thanks for the thumbs up Bob. The addition of the retaining wall will hopefully stop anything from accidentally falling off the front of the layout.

    Here's the next step

I have ordered a couple of Walthers backscenes and accessory decoders for the new turnouts from Scotland, which should arrive in the next few days. I hope to have everything finished for their arrival

Jon, your modelling is so realistic [IMG] The last pic from under the bridge is superb!

Your industrial trackage looks good, do you spray over the whole area? If so, what paint colour do you use?

I use a spray can of 'frame dirt' to spray the track and ballast after laying everything, followed by a quick blast of track colour down the sleepers. Doing it afterwards helps blend in the ballast. Both tins are by Pheonix paints (yellow tin) and I get mine from either Alston Models or Wizard Models. Both will probably be at Harrogate next month.

    Here's the latest update

I set upon the bare area behind the station, to get some more walls and earth embankment in place, as well as some fencing for the bridge.

Here's what it looks like now.

The backscenes and accessory decoder arrived while I was doing this - less than 24 hours after ordering it on the net from Mac's Models - so It'll give the ballast a chance to dry, while I get on with other things.

I've also used the retaining wall on some areas of the JJJ&E to prevent some untimely accidents.

    Jon,

your "growing" layout is very interesting. With your progress report a lot to learn.

    Thank you

Coming together nicely. A small addition, has given a good feel for the area, to seem much larger than it is in reality. Very effective modeling.

Here's the latest update with a few scenics and details on. I ended up turning the station building round 180 degrees so the loading dock is next to the roadway - seems obvious now. Backscenes next.
