I am looking for advice on moving windows on a railcar.

The situation. I picked up one of those crummy, cheap, Model Power bay window cabooses and I am modifying it into a Milwaukee caboose. I need to move some windows around to do it.

What I have considered is cutting out the sidewalls and making new sides out of styrene or brass. I have also considered "plugging" the existing window openings and then cutting out the new openings, and then just trying to patch in the plugs with putty.

I am looking for suggestions/how to/tips/pitfalls to avoid... Thanks!

Maybe I should generalize this to anyone have any links to articles or other resources that show how to patch existing windows so that I may cut the openings in new places.

All right. I sanded off all the molded on details of the model power original. I guess I now start taking little styrene patches to fill up the existing windows, use some squadron putty to make them flush, and then sand down the results?

Throw me a bone here, people. I am new at this sort of thing.

    Thanks in advance.

My experience with styrene is that you can patch it so it looks okay, but you'll never be able to cut through the patched area into original material. I don't care if it fit like a glove, was soaked with the finest glue, and left to harden for a week. It will look fine until you start filing, then something will pull out.

Fortunately, my new windows are in wholly separate locations from the current ones.

In my case I should be okay, then?
