Can anyone tell me what's the best masking material for airbrushing on uneven plastic surfaces, like locomotive shells? Frog tape, Frisket Film, or....? Also, does anyone have a strong preference for a particular brand of acrylic paints? I'm talking about N scale, if that makes a difference.

OOPS! Seems the question has already been answered in Carl Sowell's thread on the subject. It appears that there's a near consensus on Tamiya. Any dissent?

Not sure if it is the consensus, but Tamiya Tape is the only thing I will use in my shop. Been using it for over ten years with out any issues.

I second this. One thing I will add though is one thing that I do. After I am done masking, I paint a coat of clear over the tape edges. The reason for this is if there is any areas that arent quite sealed, capilary action will pull the clear coat into the gaps and "seal" those areas. After the clear coat dries I then paint my color. When the tape is removed you have a clean crisp paint line.

I have been told this step is not necessary by others but it works for me so I continue to do it. I would rather spend a little extra time and do this extra step than have to re-strip a model and start over again.

As there are more auto parts stores than hobby shops, I have used 3M Fine Line tape for many long years.
